UDEC Pty Ltd in Melbourne is expanding its drafting capability for major infrastructure projects across Australia. The Drafter will produce construction-ready documents, assist civil engineers, and contribute to CAD system improvements.

The role reports to the CADD Manager National and offers a full-time position in our Melbourne office. We seek a motivated individual with 2+ years of Australian civil drafting experience, strong AutoCAD 2D skills, and familiarity with CAD standards and state

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant experience in preparing drawings for civil infrastructure projects using 2D drafting software within an Australian Consultancy.
• Proficient in AutoCAD 2D production and sheet set management.
• Strong understanding of CAD standards and civil drafting conventions across Australian states.

Responsibilities

• Produce construction-ready drawings for major infrastructure projects using CAD and desktop publishing tools.
• Coordinate design with other disciplines and ensure timely delivery.
• Assist Project Manager and Engineers with drawing production and revisions.
• Adhere to UDEC Quality Management System CAD requirements.
• Identify project scope, programme requirements, and resource needs.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain regulatory knowledge.

UDEC Pty Ltd (UDEC) (Utilities, Design, Engineering, Construction) is an engineering consultancy with specialist experience in utility engineering services. UDEC provides design and coordination engineering services to our Clients with a focus on the delivery of major water and transport infrastructure projects. Our personnel have provided professional, cost-effective services to some of the largest construction projects in Australia, that include Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Gold Coast regions.

About the Role:

We are expanding our drafting capability in our Victoria / Queensland offices. UDEC is seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Draftsperson (Drafter) to produce construction-ready documentation for major infrastructure projects across Australia. The Drafter role forms part of the Drafting team and assists in transforming engineering concepts into precise technical drawings whilst achieving quality documentation. The Drafter is responsible for assisting Civil Engineering Professionals with drawing production on projects, and contributing to continuous improvement of company CAD systems

This is a full-time position with UDEC based in our UDEC office, reporting to the CADD Manager National.

UDEC is looking for a highly motivated individual with a keen interest in developing and broadening their skills and experience in the Public Utilities, Water and Wastewater Industry within an engineering company with a primary focus on major infrastructure projects across Australia.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Effective utilisation of computer-aided design and drafting software applications applicable to utility infrastructure design
• Assist in undertaking various planning and design activities for utility projects to achieve successful completion within time, quality, cost and stakeholder expectations
• Coordinate design with other disciplines
• Identify project scope and programme requirements to carry out the work, specific to each job being undertaken
• Develop and produce technical drawings as required by the Project Manager, Engineers, Designers using CAD, digital graphics and desktop publishing computer systems
• Undertake engineering modelling and drafting works
• Identify requirements to carry out the work
• Ongoing continual professional development and familiarity with relevant codes, regulations and industry standards
• Adherence to UDEC Quality Management System project requirements including CAD requirements

What We Look For:

Experience

2+ years of relevant experience in preparing drawings for civil infrastructure projects using 2D drafting software within an Australian Consultancy

Software skills

• Proficient in AutoCAD (2D production and sheet set management)
• Proficient in the use of Synergy
• Software customisation, script authoring, etc.

Qualifications

Tertiary education in relevant discipline

Technical Knowledge

• Strong understanding of CAD standards, civil drafting conventions, standard symbols and presentation guidelines across various Australian states
• Solid working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and State Government drafting requirements

Delivery

Ability to prioritise and prepare drawings for civil infrastructure projects and deliver to deadlines

Communication

• Excellent verbal and written skills
• Skilled at collaborative working, have good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively

Additional features of the role (travel or physical requirements):

Generally based at UDEC Melbourne or Brisbane office but may be required to work from dedicated Major Projects offices as required for project delivery.
