Discovery Program in Intensive Care Nursing for 2027
The role of the intensive care nurse is specialised and collaborative, providing consumer-centred, evidence-based care to critically ill patients with complex and rapidly changing clinical needs. Working within a multidisciplinary team, intensive care nurses use advanced assessment, problem-solving and reasoning skills to provide safe and effective patient care.
Intensive care nurses play an integral role in establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families, communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and contributing to the ongoing assessment, planning and evaluation of care throughout the patient’s journey.
