Job summary

Barwon Health Emergency Department is offering a 6-month temporary part-time Discovery Program in Emergency Nursing for 2027. This role supports Registered Nurses to develop specialty skills with structured study days and supervised shifts across adults, paediatrics and fast-track.

You will provide consumer-centred, evidence-based care, undertake clinical assessments and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support safe patient journeys in the ED.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with a minimum of 12 months acute nursing experience at program start.
• Enthusiastic learner with a commitment to high-quality patient care.
• Motivated for professional development in emergency nursing.
• Team player with initiative and good communication.

About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse looking to develop their skills and build a career in Emergency Nursing.

As an Emergency Nurse, you will provide consumer-centred, evidence-based care to patients presenting with a broad range of acute health needs. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, you will use your clinical assessment, problem-solving and organisational skills to provide safe, effective and compassionate care.

You will play an integral role in establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families, communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and contributing to the ongoing assessment and management of patients throughout their Emergency Department journey.

Key Responsibilities

• Registered Nurse with a minimum of 12 months acute nursing experience at the commencement of program

What The Program Offers

• 6-months temporary part-time 64 hours per fortnight, commencing February 2027
• A structured introduction to Emergency Nursing including clinical assessments
• Supernumerary orientation and supported clinical shifts across key areas of the Emergency Department including Adults, Paediatrics and Fast-Track
• Education and clinical support provided by the dedicated Emergency services education team
• Specific study days to develop core nursing knowledge and clinical skills
• Opportunities to build confidence in clinical assessment, prioritisation and management of the emergency patient

About The Service

Barwon Health ED is one of the largest regional health services in Victoria, providing care for approximately 80,000 emergency presentations per year. Under Barwon Health’s emergency model of care patients are streamed to dedicated assessment areas including fast track, adult, paediatric, resuscitation, trauma and mental health areas. Our mission is to improve access and patient flow to provide a sustainable service that ensures high quality, safe, people focused care. The emergency department also has short stay units to ensure consumers receive the right care, at the right place at the right time.
