Barwon Health in Geelong is offering the Discovery Program in Intensive Care Nursing for 2027. This structured, 6-month part-time program provides a clear pathway into Intensive Care, with hands-on shifts, orientation days and access to an experienced education team.
Participants gain competencies in adult and paediatric assessment, work within a multidisciplinary team, and develop clinical judgment to support critically ill patients and their families.
The role of the intensive care nurse is specialised and collaborative, providing consumer-centred, evidence-based care to critically ill patients with complex and rapidly changing clinical needs. Working within a multidisciplinary team, intensive care nurses use advanced assessment, problem-solving and reasoning skills to provide safe and effective patient care. Intensive care nurses play an integral role in establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families, communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and contributing to the ongoing assessment, planning and evaluation of care throughout the patient’s journey.
