Job summary

Barwon Health is offering a Discovery Program in Emergency Nursing for 2027. This 6-month, part-time opportunity invites Registered Nurses to develop skills in Emergency Nursing within a dynamic ED team.

You will perform consumer-centred care for acute health needs, engage in clinical assessments, and work with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient flow and outcomes throughout the ED journey.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with a minimum of 12 months acute nursing experience at the commencement of the program.
• Demonstrates strong clinical assessment and problem-solving skills.
• Committed to consumer-centred, evidence-based care in a multidisciplinary ED setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high-quality, consumer-centred care in the Emergency Department.
• Undertake clinical assessment, prioritisation and ongoing management of acute presentations.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and evaluate care plans.
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families, communicating with empathy and professionalism.
• Participate in education and professional development opportunities during the program.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse looking to develop their skills and build a career in Emergency Nursing.

As an Emergency Nurse, you will provide consumer-centred, evidence-based care to patients presenting with a broad range of acute health needs. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, you will use your clinical assessment, problem-solving and organisational skills to provide safe, effective and compassionate care.

You will play an integral role in establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families, communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and contributing to the ongoing assessment and management of patients throughout their Emergency Department journey.

Key responsibilities

What the Program Offers

• 6-months temporary part-time 64 hours per fortnight, commencing February 2027
• A structured introduction to Emergency Nursing including clinical assessments
• Supernumerary orientation and supported clinical shifts across key areas of the Emergency Department including Adults, Paediatrics and Fast-Track
• Education and clinical support provided by the dedicated Emergency services education team
• Specific study days to develop core nursing knowledge and clinical skills
• Opportunities to build confidence in clinical assessment, prioritisation and management of the emergency patient

About the service:

Barwon Health ED is one of the largest regional health services in Victoria, providing care for approximately 80,000 emergency presentations per year. Under Barwon Health’s emergency model of care patients are streamed to dedicated assessment areas including fast track, adult, paediatric, resuscitation,traumaand mental health areas. Our mission is to improve access andpatient flow to provide a sustainable service that ensures high quality, safe, people focusedcare. The emergency department also has short stay units to ensure consumers receive the right care, at the right place at the right time.
