Job summary

JewishCare NSW is seeking passionate Disability Support Workers to assist clients in the North Shore and Eastern Suburbs. You will provide direct care, support meaningful community engagement, and help meet complex needs with compassionate, person-centered care.

Required: Driver's licence, own vehicle, and availability for flexible hours. Experience in SIL and knowledge of relevant plans and policies will be highly regarded.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in providing direct care to people with complex needs and challenging behaviours.
• Experience in SIL - Supported Independent Living.
• Understanding of person-centred plans and health care plans.
• Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR if not already held.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care to clients.
• Provide respite and engage in recreational activities.
• Transport clients to/from appointments and day programs.
• Assist with domestic tasks including cleaning.
• Prepare meals and assist with nutrition.
• Support with shopping and errands.
• Assist with banking and bill payments as needed.

Job description

We are currently seeking passionate and enthusiastic Disability Support Workers with experience in SIL (Supported Independent Living), holding a driving licence and own vehicle to provide supportto our clients located on the North Shore and in the Eastern Suburbs.

You will be responsible for ensuring that people you are supporting have meaningful engagement with the community in all its forms and ensuring their complex needs are being met.

You will be providing direct care to the clients and performing activities including, but not limited to:

• Personal care;
• Respite (including recreational activities);
• Transporting to/from appointments and day programs;
• Cleaning/domestic assistance;
• Meal preparation;
• Shopping;
• Banking/Bill paying.

We are looking for candidates from all different backgrounds who have:

• Extensive experience in providing direct care to people with complex needs, people with intellectual disabilities and challenging behaviours;\
• Experience in SIL - Supported Independent Living
• Understanding of Person-Centred plans, Behaviour Support plans and Health Care plans;
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and its implication for clients;
• High levels of enthusiasm, initiative and a positive attitude;
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• Demonstrated high level communication skills;
• Must have driver's licence, vehicle with comprehensive insurance and willingness to use for work purposes;
• Ability to work flexible hours;
• First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain prior to commencement.

It is desirable, but not essential that you have:

• Education in Epilepsy Awareness;
• Relevant qualifications in Disability, Social Services or Nursing (minimum Certificate III level);
• Knowledge and an understanding of Jewish values, heritage and culture.
