Job summary

One Doorway is seeking a dedicated Disability Support Worker to assist participants in their homes across a range of care activities. Your role focuses on safety, dignity, and supporting participants to achieve personal goals under their NDIA plans.

Responsibilities

• Support participants to meet goals aligned with their NDIS plan, focusing on safety and dignity.
• Provide in-home personal care and daily living tasks per participant needs.
• Assist with activities to develop capacity across physical, social, emotional, and intellectual domains.
• Prepare meals and ensure dietary needs are met.
• Advocate for participants and empower them with choice and control.

How you’ll make an impact As a Disability Support Worker with One Doorway, you will join a team of other carers, responsible for caring and supporting people with disabilities in their homes. A day in the life as a Disability Support Worker with One Doorway may see you:

• Support participants to meet their goals, particularly in alignment with their NDIS plan, with a focus on safety, dignity, and client goals.
• Provide in-home support with health requirements, personal care and daily living tasks in alignment with the participant's needs and the Care Team's support requirements
• Assist with the delivery of activities to enhance the development of capacity and skills across physical, social, emotional, and intellectual domains
• Prepare meals and ensure dietary needs are met.
• Advocate for participants and empower them with choice and control

Where required, provide:

• Manual handling assistance
• Behavioural and Mental Health Support
• Assistance with medication administration
• Expertise working with a range of Disabilities

What we're looking for As a patient, flexible and understanding individual with a supportive and caring nature, ideally with experience within the disability or health care sectors, you’ll have:

• Be of Pacific Islander heritage, as part of participants' choice and control.
• Preferably epilepsy trained. But if not, we will train you.
• Compassion and empathy to make a difference in people’s lives. You must have experience with participants who have high needs and complex behaviour and must have good communication skills.
• A commitment to the rights of people with disabilities to live dignified lives.
• Strong listening and communication skills and be detail-oriented
• A patient, flexible, understanding, supportive and caring nature
• An ability to accept responsibility and work as part of a team

Desirable, however not essential:

• Certificate III in Individual Support or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s licence with access to a comprehensively insured vehicle.
