Job summary

One Doorway is seeking a compassionate Disability Support Worker to join our team in Williamstown, SA. You will help participants meet NDIA plan goals with emphasis on safety, dignity and person-centered care.

The role involves in-home support, personal care, meal preparation and activities that build skills across physical, social and emotional domains. You will advocate for participants, promoting choice and independence, with training provided for required certifications.

Qualifications

• Experience within disability or health care sectors is desirable.
• Patient, flexible, understanding, supportive and caring nature.
• Ability to meet the rights of people with disabilities to live dignified lives.

Responsibilities

• Support participants to meet their goals in alignment with NDIA plans with safety, dignity, and client goals.
• Provide in-home support with health requirements, personal care and daily living tasks.
• Assist with activities to develop capacity across physical, social, emotional and intellectual domains.
• Prepare meals and ensure dietary needs are met.
• Advocate for participants and empower them with choice and control.
• Manual handling assistance, behavioural and mental health support, and medication administration support as required.

How you'll make an impact As a Disability Support Worker with One Doorway, you will join a team of other carers, responsible for caring and supporting people with disabilities in their homes. A day in the life as a Disability Support Worker with One Doorway may see you:

• Support participants to meet their goals, particularly in alignment with their NDIS plan, with a focus on safety, dignity, and client goals.
• Provide in-home support with health requirements, personal care and daily living tasks in alignment with the participant's needs and the Care Team's support requirements
• Assist with the delivery of activities to enhance the development of capacity and skills across physical, social, emotional, and intellectual domains
• Prepare meals and ensure dietary needs are met.
• Advocate for participants and empower them with choice and control

Where required, provide:

• Manual handling assistance
• Behavioural and Mental Health Support
• Assistance with medication administration
• Expertise working with a range of Disabilities

What we're looking for As a patient, flexible and understanding individual with a supportive and caring nature, ideally with experience within the disability or health care sectors, you'll have:

• Be of Pacific Islander heritage, as part of participants' choice and control.
• Preferably epilepsy trained. But if not, we will train you.
• Compassion and empathy to make a difference in people's lives. You must have experience with participants who have high needs and complex behaviour and must have good communication skills.
• A commitment to the rights of people with disabilities to live dignified lives.
• Strong listening and communication skills and be detail-oriented
• A patient, flexible, understanding, supportive and caring nature
• An ability to accept responsibility and work as part of a team

Desirable, however not essential:

• Certificate III in Individual Support or equivalent.
• Valid driver's licence with access to a comprehensively insured vehicle.

We are deeply committed to keeping our clients safe, and so we require all One Doorway people to hold Proof of working rights in Australia, an NDIS Worker Screening Clearance issued in the State of Victoria, an Employee Working with Children Check card issued in the State of Victoria, and Full COVID vaccinations.
