Description du poste

Help People with Disability Have Their Voices Heard

Do you believe people with disability should be able to make decisions about matters that affect their lives and have their rights respected? ADACAS is seeking a passionate and values-driven Disability Advocate to join our NSW team in the Batemans Bay area. This is an opportunity to build a rewarding career while making a tangible difference for people with disability across the South Coast and our wider NSW service area. Every day, our Advocates work alongside people so their views are heard and their concerns are addressed.

Why You’ll Love This Role

At ADACAS, advocacy is more than a job. It is an opportunity to stand alongside people with disability at important moments in their lives and help them have their voices heard.
As a Disability Advocate, you will support people to understand their rights, navigate complex systems and pursue outcomes that matter to them. You will be part of a respected human rights organisation that values integrity, compassion, professional growth and meaningful impact.

About ADACAS

ADACAS is a leading advocacy organisation supporting people to understand and exercise their rights. Our work is grounded in a strong commitment to human rights, social justice and self-determination. ADACAS and Illawarra Advocacy have merged, bringing together their experience to provide independent disability advocacy across our funded NSW service areas.

About the Role

As a Disability Advocate, you will provide information, education and individual advocacy to people with disability. You will work directly with clients to understand their goals, navigate services, resolve concerns and make informed decisions. The role combines individual advocacy, community education and stakeholder engagement. You will work across three programs, within each program’s funded service area:

  • National Disability Advocacy Program (NDAP): support people with disability facing complex challenges to understand and exercise their rights, consider options, address barriers and access services. This program’s funded area is outside Batemans Bay.
  • NDIS Appeals Program: provide non-legal advocacy to people affected by reviewable NDIA decisions, helping them navigate external review at the Administrative Review Tribunal or an agreed dispute resolution pathway. This can include preparing documents and attending conferences or hearings.
  • Disability Advocacy Futures Program (DAFP): provide individual advocacy to help people with disability access NSW Government and mainstream community services and supports, including health, education, housing and justice services in the funded NSW regions.
  • National Redress Scheme: provide free, confidential and trauma informed support to people engaging with the National Redress Scheme, including help to understand the Scheme, prepare an application and access specialist services.
What This Role Offers
  • Purpose-driven work that has a direct impact on people’s lives.
  • A supportive, experienced and collaborative team environment.
  • Comprehensive advocacy training and ongoing professional development.
  • Opportunities to build expertise in disability rights, NDIS external review and NSW service systems.
  • Variety in your work, with a mix of individual advocacy, community education, Tribunal appearances and stakeholder engagement.
  • Flexible work arrangements and home office equipment.
  • Up to $15,900 tax-free living expenses through salary packaging.
  • Up to $2,650 tax-free meal and entertainment benefits.
  • SCHADS Award Level 5 classification, dependent on qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide information, support and individual advocacy to people with disability, guided by their views, wishes and rights.
  • Assist clients to understand their rights and options across disability, NDIS and NSW mainstream service systems.
  • Support clients to self-advocate and advocate alongside or on behalf of them when appropriate.
  • Deliver rights-based education and community information sessions.
  • Develop positive relationships with disability, health, housing and community organisations and other key stakeholders across the South Coast.
  • Maintain accurate case records and data within Salesforce.
  • Identify recurring barriers and issues that may inform broader advocacy and service improvement.
About You
  • Strong commitment to human rights, social justice and person-centred practice.
  • Experience within disability advocacy, community services, health, law or a related sector.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and advocacy skills.
  • Experience supporting people to navigate complex systems and services.
  • Knowledge of NDIS reviews, the Tribunal, NSW services or South Coast networks, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with or advocating for people with disability.
  • Ability to interpret legislation, policy and service processes and manage complex individual matters.
  • National Police Check (or ability to obtain).
  • NSW Working With Children Check (or ability to obtain and maintain).
  • Current Australian Driver Licence and access to your own private vehicle for work travel. Business travel is reimbursed under ADACAS arrangements.
Why Join ADACAS?
  • Meaningful work supporting people with disability to exercise their rights.
  • Supportive and values-driven workplace culture.
  • Ongoing learning, professional development and advocacy training.

We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace and strongly encourage applications from First Nations peoples and people with disability.

ADACAS employees are encouraged to be fully vaccinated against COVID‑19 and receive an annual influenza immunisation.
