Job summary

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) seeks a seasoned leader to direct the Australian Trade Union Institute and the ACTU’s education and capacity-building work. Reporting to the Executive Officer, the Director, Education & Capacity Building will shape strategy and lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver education, training, events and resources for union leaders, staff and delegates.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated leadership within a union, including organising and campaigning experience.
• Ability to provide strategic leadership and deliver outcomes through multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience developing and maintaining complex stakeholder relationships.
• Judgement, discretion and initiative in a politically sensitive environment.
• Experience managing budgets, resources and priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Deep understanding of the Australian union movement.
• Commitment to ACTU values and the union movement.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic, long-term education and capacity-building initiatives for unions.
• Lead the ATUI program, including partnerships and RTO responsibilities.
• Provide strategic leadership to the Education & Capacity Building Work Centre.
• Collaborate with unions to ensure programs reflect needs and priorities.
• Lead movement-wide collaboration and sharing of resources through courses and events.
• Oversee curriculum development and learning program evaluation.
• Ensure education programmes are grounded in leadership, organising and campaigning.
