Job summary

Canberra Grammar School invites a dynamic Director of Music to lead CGS Music, Snow Concert Hall and the wider programme from Pre-School to Year 12. This role blends artistic authority with strategic management and a hands-on approach to performance and study.

The successful candidate will inspire a large community of musician-educators, curate high standards, and develop international‑calibre concert programming while maintaining strong partnerships with students, families and external arts

Qualifications

• Proven leadership of a large P–12 or equivalent music programme.
• Experience in conducting, ensemble direction, and concert programming.
• Ability to develop high musical standards and mentor staff.
• Experience managing facilities, budgets and schedules.
• Strong relationships with students, families, alumni and partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide whole-programme leadership across curriculum, ensembles, tuition and performance.
• Oversee execution of concerts, festivals and partnerships with external organisations.
• Lead curriculum development, assessment and talent development for CGS Music.
• Manage budgets, facilities, scheduling and operational systems to professional standards.
• Foster a collaborative culture with staff, students and communities.
