The Director of Educational Opportunities provides strategic leadership across academic enrichment and scholarships, extended and independent learning, careers and tertiary guidance, and global education.

This is both a strategic and hands-on role, with evenings and vacation study programmes.

Qualifications

• Senior school leadership experience in enrichment, scholarships, extended learning or global education.
• Culture of aspiration, inclusion and academic ambition with measurable impact on student engagement and outcomes.
• Experience leading dispersed teams of programme leaders and specialists.
• Ability to establish partnerships with universities, schools and external providers.
• Knowledge of child protection, safeguarding and risk-management for off-campus activities and international travel.
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication with strong technological capability.

About the Role

Canberra Grammar School is seeking an exceptional educational leader to shape the future of learning beyond the core curriculum.

The Director of Educational Opportunities provides strategic leadership across academic enrichment and scholarships, extended and independent learning, careers and tertiary guidance, and global education. The Director brings these areas together into a coherent and distinctive programme that ensures the School’s commitment to challenge, aspiration and opportunity is reflected in the lived experience of every Senior School student.

This is both a strategic and hands‑on leadership role. The Director will shape the School’s vision while remaining actively engaged in the mentoring, study programmes and student opportunities they lead. The role also includes regular commitments outside standard school hours, including evening and vacation study programmes.

As one of the Senior School’s most externally connected leaders, the Director will build influential relationships with universities, global partner schools, professional bodies and enrichment providers. Working closely with the Community Development Office and senior colleagues across the School, they will expand pathways, partnerships and opportunities that prepare students to thrive beyond CGS.

You will bring:

• Demonstrated experience leading, designing or strategically developing enrichment, scholarship, extended learning, careers or global education programmes in a secondary school
• A demonstrated ability to build a culture of aspiration, inclusion and academic ambition, with evidence of positive impact on student engagement and outcomes
• Experience leading, developing and holding accountable a dispersed team of programme leaders and specialist colleagues
• The ability to establish and sustain productive partnerships with universities, schools, professional bodies and external providers
• Working knowledge of child protection, safeguarding and risk‑management obligations relating to off‑campus activities and international travel
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, together with strong technological capability.

Ideally, you will also bring:

• Experience developing careers and tertiary guidance with measurable impact on destination outcomes, including international pathways
• Experience designing and leading a senior study or equivalent extended‑learning model
• Experience governing international travel, exchange and partner‑school arrangements within a compliance framework
• Experience mentoring high‑ability students within a structured scholarship programme
