Job summary

Great Southern Bank in Brisbane is seeking a hands-on DevOps Engineer to optimise our critical digital and payment platforms. You will boost automation, reliability and security while supporting 24/7 operations from a hybrid Brisbane setting.

You will work across cloud and on-prem environments, drive CI/CD improvements, manage platform lifecycle, and provide technical guidance to engineers and partner teams. A senior engineering role with demanding, impactful work.

Qualifications

• 10+ years' experience across IT environments, incl. cloud engineering and delivery.
• Deep AWS experience with on-premise exposure and container platforms.
• Strong DevOps and automation capability, incl. CI/CD pipelines and scripting.
• Broad knowledge across Windows, Linux, networking, storage and security.
• Experience in incident, change and release management for critical systems.
• Technical leadership and vendor management skills in financial services.

• Supporting and optimising critical application platforms and AWS cloud environments to deliver high availability and reliability
• Improving CI/CD pipelines and automating build, deployment and operational processes to enable faster, safer technology change
• Managing system patching, vulnerabilities, capacity and platform lifecycle to maintain secure and resilient environments
• Configuring and maintaining monitoring and alerting across critical 24x7 systems
• Supporting project delivery teams with non-production environments, application builds, configuration and deployments
• Leading technical incident response and stakeholder communications during service disruptions
• Providing technical leadership and guidance to engineers and partner teams while driving continuous improvement
• Participating in after-hours releases and the rotational 24x7 DevOps on-call roster

To succeed in this role, you will have:

• 10+ years' experience across IT environments, with strong capability in application support, cloud engineering, systems administration and/or technical delivery
• Deep experience with AWS and cloud-native technologies, combined with exposure to on-premise environments, containerisation and platforms such as VMware, OpenShift or Fargate
• Strong DevOps and automation capability, including CI/CD pipelines, build and deployment automation, orchestration and scripting using tools or languages such as Bash, PowerShell or Groovy
• Broad technical knowledge across Windows and Linux environments, infrastructure, networking, storage, databases, integration, security and application technologies
• Experience supporting business‑critical, customer-facing systems, ideally digital banking or payment platforms, including incident, change and release management in controlled environments
• Demonstrated technical leadership, stakeholder and vendor management skills, along with an understanding of technology risk, operational resilience and regulatory requirements within financial services
• Degree qualifications in Information Technology or equivalent experience, with AWS, RHEL, Microsoft or other relevant technology certifications highly regarded
