Job summary

Great Southern Bank (Formerly CUA) in Brisbane is seeking a hands-on DevOps Engineer. You will optimise critical platforms, strengthen CI/CD and automation, and ensure secure, scalable, 24x7 operations across cloud and on-prem environments.

You lead incident response, drive continuous improvement, and collaborate with delivery teams to balance rapid change with operational discipline. Hybrid work model offered in Brisbane.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in IT environments including application support, cloud engineering or technical delivery.
• AWS and cloud-native technologies experience with on-prem exposure
• Strong DevOps and automation capabilities including CI/CD pipelines and scripting
• Broad Windows and Linux knowledge incl. security, storage and networking
• Experience supporting business-critical, customer-facing systems such as digital banking or payments
• Technical leadership, vendor management, risk, and regulatory awareness in financial services
• Degree qualifications in IT; AWS, RHEL or related certifications highly regarded

As our highly valued DevOps Engineer based in Brisbane, your role will support, optimise and improve the technology platforms underpinning our critical digital and payment systems, with a strong focus on automation, stability, security and operational excellence.

• Supporting and optimising critical application platforms and AWS cloud environments to deliver high availability and reliability
• Improving CI/CD pipelines and automating build, deployment and operational processes to enable faster, safer technology change
• Managing system patching, vulnerabilities, capacity and platform lifecycle to maintain secure and resilient environments
• Configuring and maintaining monitoring and alerting across critical 24x7 systems
• Supporting project delivery teams with non-production environments, application builds, configuration and deployments
• Leading technical incident response and stakeholder communications during service disruptions
• Providing technical leadership and guidance to engineers and partner teams while driving continuous improvement
• Participating in after-hours releases and the rotational 24x7 DevOps on-call roster

You’ll join a technically skilled, forward-thinking team focused on automation, reliability and continuous improvement. You’ll work across cloud and on-premise environments, helping engineer, support and improve platforms that need to be secure, scalable and available around the clock.

It’s a genuinely hands-on senior engineering role. You’ll tackle complex technical issues, improve CI/CD and automation, strengthen platform resilience and provide technical leadership when it matters most. You’ll balance project delivery with the operational rigour required to support business- critical technology.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

• 10+ years' experience across IT environments, with strong capability in application support, cloud engineering, systems administration and/or technical delivery
• Deep experience with AWS and cloud-native technologies, combined with exposure to on-premise environments, containerisation and platforms such as VMware, OpenShift or Fargate
• Strong DevOps and automation capability, including CI/CD pipelines, build and deployment automation, orchestration and scripting using tools or languages such as Bash, PowerShell or Groovy
• Broad technical knowledge across Windows and Linux environments, infrastructure, networking, storage, databases, integration, security and application technologies
• Experience supporting business- critical, customer-facing systems, ideally digital banking or payment platforms, including incident, change and release management in controlled environments
• Demonstrated technical leadership, stakeholder and vendor management skills, along with an understanding of technology risk, operational resilience and regulatory requirements within financial services
• Degree qualifications in Information Technology or equivalent experience, with AWS, RHEL, Microsoft or other relevant technology certifications highly regarded
