Job summary

City of Greater Geelong seeks an experienced Civil Engineer to facilitate road, drainage and ancillary works for subdivision developments. You will help develop policies and practices to improve road and drainage infrastructure and ensure projects meet Council standards.

The role is a Fixed Term Full Time position until 30 September 2027, Band 6 with a salary around $98,634 per annum plus super (pro rata). Strong coordination with developers and authorities is essential to success.

Qualifications

About the role In this role, you will facilitate the delivery of road, drainage and ancillary works associated with subdivision developments, ensuring projects meet Council requirements and standards. You will also contribute to the development of innovative policies, plans and practices that support the ongoing improvement of the City’s road and drainage infrastructure.

Work type: Fixed Term Full-time until 30 September 2027
Classification: Band 6 $98,633 pa plus super pro rata

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyse and evaluate submitted engineering documentation including drawings and specifications relating to all private subdivisional development to confirm compliance with relevant Council standards and requirements.
  • Oversee construction of approved subdivisional works in accordance with Council standards including monitoring of safe construction techniques and procedures.
  • Liaise with developers, consultants, contractors and statutory authorities and provide authoritative advice on Council standards and requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with planning permit conditions including payment of required monies prior to release of titles for subdivisions.
  • Provide engineering advice on matters such as traffic, drainage, car parking, etc for the issuing of development approvals.
  • Approve drainage plans for building approvals in accordance with policy and guidelines.

About you To be successful in this role, you will have a have a tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or several years of relevant experience, along with experience working with processes, regulations and governance requirements. You will have strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret and apply policies, standards and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles in examining engineering documentation for subdivisional plans.
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a professional team.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, tactfully and concisely with staff and members of the community.
  • Ability to set priorities and plan/organise work allocated.
  • Ability to problem solve and think laterally to come up with innovative solutions to difficult problems.

Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
