Job summary

Sutherland Shire Council is seeking a Development Compliance Officer to monitor development consents and investigate breaches under the Local Government Act. You will handle inquiries, provide timely guidance, and respond to urgent compliance matters to uphold environmental and planning standards in the Sutherland Shire.

You will receive and investigate complaints, issue notices, conduct inspections, support legal proceedings, and contribute to policy improvements while keeping stakeholders

About The Role

The Development Compliance Officer plays a crucial role in monitoring compliance with development consents and investigating breaches of legislation under the Local Government Authority. This position is tasked with managing customer inquiries, providing advice, and addressing urgent compliance matters to ensure effective development and environmental standards are upheld across the Sutherland Shire.

Core responsibilities include receiving and investigating complaints, monitoring development activities, enforcing relevant legislation, issuing notices and orders, conducting inspections, and supporting legal proceedings. The officer will also contribute to policy improvements and maintain communication with stakeholders through reporting and education initiatives.

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will possess a blend of relevant qualifications and practical experience in development control, building surveying, or town planning. Experience in regulatory compliance functions and a strong understanding of pertinent legislation, including the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, is necessary.

• Package: $103,552 - $124,574 gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation. An attraction allowance may also be considered, subject to the candidate's qualifications, experience, and demonstrated skills.
• Hours of work: Working 35 hours per week. You will have the option of a 19 day month with Council's ADO system (Accrued Day Off).
