Job description

BlueScope is an Australian-born global success story spanning 15 countries. Our team of over 16,500 people is our strength and we want our people to be safe, successful and well. We’re leaders and innovators in transforming steel into smart products and solutions that support society, today and in the future. We’re proud of brands, like COLORBOND ® steel that inspire and protect everything from hospitals to bridges andstadiums.

The Opportunity

Bring your leadership, energy and practical problem-solving skills to a hands‑on Despatch Team Leader role with Lysaght in Canberra. Made in Australia since 1921, Lysaght manufactures and markets steel building products that have helped shape the nation: from iconic corrugated roofing over Australian homes, to large commercial and industrial projects.

This opportunity will suit someone who enjoys being close to the action, supporting people and keeping a busy operation running smoothly. You’ll lead a small despatch team of three, work closely with our Production Team Leader and spend most of your day on the floor, guiding the team, helping solve problems and making sure customer orders are moving safely, accurately and on time.

As Despatch Team Leader, you’ll be responsible for the daily flow of despatch activity, from checking loads and supporting safe unloading through to customer collections, order accuracy and follow‑up on any errors or issues. Around 80% of your time will be spent on the floor with the team, with the remaining time focused on emails, daily coordination and administration.

You don’t need to know our systems or have worked with our products before. What matters most is that you are a good leader: organised, motivated, safety‑minded and able to support the team to achieve our shared goals. We’ll provide the training and support for the rest. This is a full‑time, permanent day shift role, working 6:30am to 2:30pm, Monday to Friday.

What Will You Do?
  • lead the day‑to‑day despatch operation, keeping the team focused on safe, organised and efficient work
  • support the team on the floor, including helping with loading and unloading tasks
  • check daily loads, customer collections and despatch priorities to make sure work is moving smoothly
  • work closely with the Production Team Leader, transport scheduler, customer service team and team members across the floor
  • support direct customer contact, including trade desk enquiries and occasional order support when required
  • run daily morning meetings, communicate priorities clearly and follow up on any errors or issues
  • help build a positive, safe and supportive team environment where people know what’s expected and feel supported to do their best work
More About You

You might come from manufacturing, warehousing, despatch, logistics, distribution, customer‑facing operations or another hands‑on environment. You could already be a Team Leader, or you may be a leading hand, senior operator, coordinator or experienced team member ready to step into leadership. Whatever your path, you’ll bring:

  • experience leading, guiding or coordinating people in a hands‑on work environment
  • a strong safety‑first mindset and the confidence to speak up, set expectations and support others
  • good communication skills and a collaborative style, with the ability to work well across different teams
  • an organised approach, with attention to detail across customer orders, loads and daily priorities
  • a practical, considered approach to problem solving when priorities change or the day gets busy
  • a willingness to learn our systems, processes and product range
