Job summary

John Randall Consulting (JRC) in Canberra is seeking a Design Engineer – Civil Infrastructure & Land Development to join the team. The role offers exposure to the full project lifecycle from feasibility through to construction support, with mentoring from Principal and Senior Engineers.

You will design roads, earthworks, stormwater, sewer and water supply infrastructure, and contribute to projects across the ACT and NSW. A Bachelor of Civil Engineering and 1–3 years’ experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• 1–3 years' experience in civil engineering design.
• Experience in the ACT and/or surrounding NSW region is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking civil engineering design for land development and infrastructure projects under guidance of Senior/Principal Engineers.
• Preparing designs for roads, earthworks, stormwater drainage, sewer, water supply and associated infrastructure.
• Contributing to projects from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, approvals and construction support.
• Undertaking hydrological and hydraulic analysis and contributing to stormwater management and WSUD design.
• Preparing calculations, technical reports, specifications, drawings and project documentation.
• Ensuring designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, ACT Government requirements and council standards.
• Participating in project meetings and liaising with clients, contractors and approval authorities.
• Undertaking site inspections and resolving design and construction issues.
• Managing assigned design tasks to agreed quality, budget and time requirements.
• Developing practical and cost-effective solutions to engineering challenges.

Design Engineer - Civil Infrastructure & Land Development

Due to continued growth, John Randall Consulting (JRC) is seeking a Design Engineer – Civil Infrastructure & Land Development to join the Canberra office.

This is an excellent opportunity for a civil engineer with 1–3 years' experience who is looking to further develop their technical and project delivery skills across a diverse range of civil infrastructure projects.

You will work closely with the Principal and Senior Engineers, Civil Designers and other members of the project team on projects throughout the ACT and surrounding NSW region.

The role provides exposure to the full project lifecycle, from initial investigations and feasibility studies through concept and detailed design, authority approvals, documentation and construction support.

You will be supported and mentored by JRC's experienced engineers while progressively developing your technical capability and taking greater responsibility for design and project delivery.

Key responsibilities

Undertaking civil engineering design for land development and infrastructure projects under the guidance of Senior and Principal Engineers.

Preparing designs for roads, earthworks, stormwater drainage, sewer, water supply and associated civil infrastructure.

Contributing to projects from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, approvals, documentation and construction support.

Undertaking hydrological and hydraulic analysis and contributing to stormwater management and WSUD design.

Preparing engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, design drawings and other project documentation.

Ensuring designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, ACT Government requirements, Icon Water requirements, NSW council standards and other applicable technical requirements.

Participating in project meetings and assisting with liaison with clients, contractors and approval authorities.

Undertaking site inspections and assisting with the resolution of design and construction issues.

Managing assigned design tasks to agreed quality, budget and time requirements.

Developing practical and cost-effective solutions to engineering and design challenges.

About you

A Bachelor of Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification.

1–3 years' experience in civil engineering design, preferably involving land development and/or civil infrastructure projects.

Experience in the ACT and/or surrounding NSW region will be highly regarded.

Some practical experience in the design of roads, stormwater drainage, earthworks, sewer and/or water supply infrastructure.

A sound understanding of civil engineering principles and Australian Standards.

Good analytical and problem-solving skills and an ability to develop practical engineering solutions.

Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, designers and other disciplines.

The ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining design quality and meeting project deadlines.

A willingness to learn and develop your technical, project management and client liaison skills.
