Job summary

Melbourne Girls Grammar is seeking an experienced leader to join our Boarding House as Deputy Director of Boarding. Reporting to the Director of Boarding, this on-site role will oversee day-to-day operations and foster a safe, supportive residential environment for students.

You will lead a dedicated boarding staff, coordinate wellbeing initiatives, and work closely with families and school colleagues to promote student growth, wellbeing, and success.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated capacity to build meaningful, respectful relationships with students, colleagues and families.
• Pastoral care experience, preferably in a boarding or school setting.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills, including managing competing priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day oversight of Boarding House operations.
• Act as the first point of contact in the absence of the Director of Boarding.
• Manage student leave, medical needs, and behavioural expectations.
• Collaborate with the Director of Boarding on community events, parent communications, and student support strategies.
• Assist with transport coordination, logistics, and administrative duties.
• Participate in the on-call duty roster.
• Work collaboratively with the staff in the day School to support the needs of all boarding students.

Melbourne Girls Grammar is seeking an experienced and passionate leader to join our Boarding House team as the Deputy Director of Boarding. Reporting to the Director of Boarding, this key leadership position resides onsite and is responsible for creating a safe, supportive, and vibrant home away from home for our boarding students.

The successful candidate will support the day‑to‑day operations of the Boarding House, provide exceptional pastoral care, and lead and support a dedicated team of boarding staff. Working closely with students, families, and colleagues, you will foster a positive boarding culture that promotes wellbeing, personal growth, and student success.

Melbourne Girls Grammar Boarding House is situated in the heart of South Yarra and accommodates more than 90 boarding students from Years 7 to 12. At MGGS, we provide a safe, caring, and inclusive residential environment where students are able to thrive academically, socially, and personally.

Key Selection Criteria

About you

• Hold a current Victorian Employee Working with Children Check or VIT registration or be able to obtain the required clearance or registration.
• Hold a relevant tertiary qualification in adolescent health and wellbeing, such as community health, youth work or adolescent services.
• Demonstrated capacity to build meaningful, respectful relationships with students, colleagues and families.
• Demonstrated experience in pastoral care, preferably in a boarding or school setting.
• Have strong organisational and administrative skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Work collaboratively and contribute positively to the broader School community.
• Hold a full Victorian driver licence and be willing to drive the School minibus.
• Hold current HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid qualifications.
