Job summary

1300SMILES Smithfield is looking for two Dental Assistants to join our Cairns practice, with one full-time and one casual role. You will work closely with dentists, the Practice Manager and front office to keep the surgery running smoothly and deliver patient-focused care.

Responsibilities include chairside support across general, restorative and preventive procedures, room prep, instrument sterilisation, and accurate record-keeping in a busy, friendly team environment.

Qualifications

• Previous Dental Assistant experience or Certificate III in Dental Assisting.
• Understanding of infection control and sterilisation procedures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy team environment.

Known for our clear explanations of treatment and warm, personalised approach, we provide general and restorative dentistry, along with orthodontics, to patients across Cairns' northern beaches.

We're looking for two Dental Assistants to join our team, with one full-time and one casual position available. This is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly, supportive team and build your career within an established practice.

Job Description

This is a primarily chairside role, suited to a Dental Assistant who takes pride in a well-run surgery and helping patients feel comfortable throughout their treatment.

Working closely with our dentists, Practice Manager and front office team, you'll provide clinical support and help keep the practice running smoothly.

What Your Days Look Like

You'll provide chairside assistance across a range of general, restorative and preventive procedures, prepare treatment rooms and help maintain a clean, organised clinical environment.

• Full-time: Generally Monday to Friday. Flexibility is required to accommodate occasional late Thursday evening shifts and Saturday work as needed across the practice's opening hours
• Casual: Average of 15 hours per week, with shifts offered across the practice's opening hours, including occasional Saturdays and late-night Thursdays.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing chairside assistance across general, restorative and preventive treatments
• Preparing treatment rooms and sterilising instruments in line with infection control standards
• Provide excellent patient care and support before, during, and after treatment
• Maintain accurate clinical records
• Manage stock and clinical supplies
• Assist with basic reception duties when required
• Ensure the practice maintains high standards of cleanliness and organisation

Qualifications

To succeed in the role, you will bring:

• Previous experience as a Dental Assistant and/or a Certificate III in Dental Assisting (or higher)
• An understanding of infection control and sterilisation procedures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work efficiently in a busy team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
• A professional, reliable, and well-presented manner.
• A caring, positive, and patient-focused approach.
