Job summary

Dementia Support Australia (DSA) invites a Professional Dementia Consultant to join our Cairns team. You will work in diverse care settings under HACDSP, applying biopsychosocial approaches to support people living with dementia and their care networks.

You will implement practical, non-pharmacological strategies to prevent or respond to behaviour changes, improving quality of life. This fixed-term contract runs to June 2028 and is based from our Cairns office.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting people living with dementia.
• Experience in Australian residential aged care and/or community aged care.
• Current Australian driver's licence and willingness to travel.
• Commitment to HammondCare's Christian Mission and values.

Responsibilities

• Support families, caregivers and clinical staff to understand how dementia impacts each individual.
• Equip carers and clinicians to prevent and respond to behaviour changes through coaching and resource development.
• Synthesize information from observations to provide evidence-based, relationship-centred recommendations.
• Develop contextualised reports to drive changes on the ground and improve quality of life for people living with dementia.
• Undertake assessments to understand the holistic experience of the person and their care network.
• Collaborate with the Dementia Support Australia team to build capability across care sectors.
• Contribute to research, projects and programs to meet evolving sector needs.
• Take on other projects aligned with skills and knowledge.
