Job summary

SYPAQ Systems is seeking a Defence Systems Engineer- Communications (Interoperability) to contribute to an Australian Defence project in Canberra. Work involves establishing IAPs and developing datasets for communications across Integrated Air and Missile Defence systems.

The role requires NV2 clearance, with Top-Secret PVT desirable, and an office-based posting in Russell, ACT. The successful candidate will inform Capability Reviews with stakeholders, identify interoperability opportunities,

Qualifications

• Extensive experience and knowledge of Defence Communications and Information Systems and stakeholder community.
• Demonstrated experience in Defence Programs, Force Design, or Concept Development roles.
• Ability to interpret technical information regarding Defence Communications and Information systems and Integrated Air and Missile Defence Systems.

Responsibilities

• Establish Interoperability Assurance Profiles (IAP) to develop a data set across communications systems used in the Integrated Air and Missile Defence system.

Defence Systems Engineer- Communications (Interoperability)

Due to an increased demand within our business, SYPAQ is seeking Systems Engineer- Communications to work on a Defence project. The contract starts on 9th November 2026 to 31st December 2027. This is an office-based role in Russell, ACT.

Overview: Our client is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer- Communications to establish Interoperability Assurance Profiles (IAP) to develop a comprehensive data set within the communications systems employed across the Integrated Air and Missile Defence system to de-risk the delivery of mission systems for our Defence client.

The successful candidate is responsible for informing Capability Review(s) in consultation with systems owners and Joint stakeholders, to identify opportunities to increase systems interoperability to maintain a resilient end-to-end networked environment that enables the execution of the ADF theatre concepts and defence of Australia's national interests.

To support this project, the successful candidate is experienced in the following:

• Extensive experience and knowledge of Defence Communications and Information Systems and stakeholder community
• Demonstrated experience in Defence Programs, Force Design, or Concept Development roles
• Strong stakeholder management and communications skills, including the ability to interpret technical information regarding Defence Communications and Information systems and Integrated Air and Missile Defence Systems
• Project / Program Management experience within a Defence context
• Understanding of Joint and land domain specific staff processes within operational and tactical level headquarters
• Knowledge and experience working within the Defence Capability System
• Demonstrated experience (in relation to the Scope of Work and statement of duties) to undertake the services successfully
• Extensive experience and knowledge of ADF Ground Based Air Defence Systems, Planning and Execution
• Knowledge and experience of Tactical Data Link (TDL) networks, specifically Link-16

The successful applicant must be an Australian Citizen with an existing Negative Vetting Two (NV2) Security clearance. A Top-Secret Positive Vetting Security clearance (TSPV) is desired.
