Job summary

Serco seeks a passionate GP with an interest in occupational health to join Defence Force Recruiting Medical Officer at the ACT Health Centre in Canberra. Deliver high-quality primary care to Defence members, including fitness-for-duty assessments, pre/post-deployment care, and chronic disease management.

The role supports the Chief Medical Officer in health suitability screening for ADF applicants, with clear written recommendations and multidisciplinary collaboration to maintain patient

Qualifications

• Unrestricted AHPRA registration as a General Practitioner.
• FRACGP, FACRRM or Vocational Registration.
• Minimum two years’ GP experience in the last five years in a General Practice Setting.
• Current CPR certification (HLTAID009).
• Australian Citizenship required (Baseline Security Clearance).
• Commitment to CPD and ethical, patient-centred care.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality primary care to Defence members.
• Occupational Medicine environment, conducting fitness-for-duty assessments and pre/post-deployment care, in addition to injury management, chronic disease management and preventative health.
• Support the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) DFR in the screening and assessment of the health suitability of applicants to join the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
• Provide clear verbal and written advice and recommendations to Defence Force Recruiting Centre (DFRC) medical practitioners regarding applicants’ health suitability.
• Make decisions regarding the health suitability of applicants to join the ADF.
• Undertake case reviews and prepare findings in the required written format, including responses to requests such as ministerial complaints and internal audits.
• Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical environment where patient wellness is paramount.
