Job summary

Opal Fibre Packaging is seeking a Mechanical Fitter for our Spearwood site (WA). This full-time, day shift role runs Monday to Thursday 7am–3pm and Friday 7am–12pm. You’ll be part of a maintenance team driving preventative maintenance, equipment reliability, and safe operations.

Ideal candidates bring HRWL with forklift/EWP experience, machining and basic welding skills, SAP familiarity, and a proactive, team-focused attitude. Overtime may be required; dual-trade is valued but not mandatory.

Qualifications

• Experience with preventive maintenance and breakdown repairs.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and schematics.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and risk controls.

Responsibilities

• Play a key role within a team focused on development and execution of preventative maintenance on site.
• Maintain equipment condition and reliability to meet quality and safety targets.
• Provide technical support to Maintenance and Production teams.
• Complete machine breakdowns in a timely manner.
• Assist with ordering components from external suppliers with approval.
• Respond to requests regarding repair and maintenance details on a technical basis.

Job description

Opal Fibre Packaging provides a full service offering in corrugated cardboard box packaging from design and product testing through to supply chain integration. We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Fitter to join the team at our site in Spearwood (WA). This role is a full-time and ongoing position on the day shift roster (Monday to Thursday 7am – 3pm and Friday 7am – 12pm).

The key focus of this role will be to:

• Play a key role within a team focused on the development and execution of efficient preventative maintenance practices on the site.
• Maintaining equipment condition and reliability so that company quality and safety targets can be achieved.
• Provide technical support to the Maintenance and Production teams.
• Where required the timely action and satisfactory completion of machine breakdowns.
• Assist with ordering components from external suppliers as necessary with appropriate approval.
• Respond to specific requests regarding the details of repair and/or maintenance to equipment on a technical basis.

For this role we would ideally like you to have:

• A high-risk work license (HRWL), with relevant forklift-driving & elevated work platforms experience (is desirable)
• Machining and basic welding experience
• A positive mindset
• Experience using maintenance management systems (SAP experience is highly regarded, but not essential)
• Knowledge & experience in safe working practices/procedures
• The ability to be a supportive team member, trustworthy with great work ethic
• The ability to be a quick learner with a professional can-do attitude
• Ability to work overtime hours as required
• Dual-trade would be highly-regarded but is not mandatory
