Job summary

TheDriveGroup is seeking an experienced Data Engineering Team Lead to own the data capability and shape the cloud data platform. Based in Brisbane with fully remote options, you will blend hands-on engineering with architecture and technical leadership.

You will lead design and delivery of scalable cloud data solutions, with Snowflake at the center, and drive the AWS-to-Azure transition while mentoring engineers and aligning with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Senior/Lead or Principal level data engineering experience.
• Strong Snowflake platform design and data modelling expertise.
• Azure data engineering experience with AWS exposure.

We're working with a growing technology business looking for an experienced Data Engineering Team Lead to take ownership of its data engineering capability and help shape the future of its cloud data platform.

With a transition from AWS to Azure underway, this is an opportunity to lead from the front, combining hands‑on engineering with architecture, solution design and technical leadership.

You'll have genuine ownership over technical decisions, platform design and engineering standards, while remaining closely involved in delivery.

Brisbane preferred (Fully Remote)

What You'll Do

• Lead the design, architecture and development of scalable cloud data solutions.
• Take technical ownership of the data platform, with Snowflake playing a central role.
• Help architect and deliver the transition from AWS to Azure.
• Remain hands‑on across data engineering, pipelines, integrations and platform development.
• Establish engineering standards, best practices and scalable design patterns.
• Provide technical direction, mentoring and guidance to other engineers.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Balance approximately 70% hands‑on technical delivery with 30% technical leadership and broader responsibilities.

What You'll Bring

• Strong commercial experience in Data Engineering, ideally at Senior, Lead or Principal level.
• Strong Snowflake experience, including platform design, data modelling and engineering.
• Solid Azure data engineering experience, ideally with exposure to AWS.
• Proven experience designing and architecting cloud-based data platforms.
• Strong SQL, Python and modern data pipeline development experience.
• Confidence making architectural decisions while remaining hands‑on with engineering delivery.
• Previous technical leadership experience, with people management experience highly regarded.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
