Job summary

Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts is seeking an APS6 Data Policy Advisor to lead the implementation of the Data Strategy 2025-29 and collaborate on data governance within the Data, AI Governance and Information Management Branch.

The role offers flexibility with hybrid work arrangements across multiple Australian offices, including potential merit pool opportunities for future vacancies.

Qualifications

• Ability to demonstrate capability against the APS6 Work level standard.
• Strong interest in data and its role in policy development.
• Experience in data management, data governance, data analysis or policy development.
• Ability to meet deadlines and prioritise between competing demands.
• Stakeholder management skills and ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to communicate technical material to a broad audience.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance the department's data agenda.
• Contribute to the development of yearly Data Strategy Action Plans.
• Design and implement initiatives to support the department's data governance framework and policies.
• Support education around data governance and data management to complement the rollout and embedding of the department's data governance framework and Action Plans.
• Develop guidance and products to improve the department's data capability, including reference materials.
• Contribute to briefing material for high level whole-of-government data forums where the department is represented by the Chief Data Officer.
