Descrição da oferta de emprego

Help shape a more reliable, modern and trusted data environment for a purpose-led, member-owned bank.

As a Data Engineer at TMBL, you’ll play an important role in migrating our enterprise data warehouse from legacy SQL Server technology to Azure SQL Managed Instance. You’ll build and support secure, tested and observable data solutions that protect business continuity while helping the organisation make confident decisions from trusted data.
This is an opportunity for an experienced data engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, improving engineering practices and seeing their work support operational, regulatory, management and analytical outcomes.

Why the role matters

Reliable data is central to effective decisions, reporting and service delivery. Your work will help ensure that important data flows remain accurate, controlled and supportable as TMBL modernises its data environment.
You’ll contribute across the full engineering lifecycle, from design and migration through to testing, reconciliation, production support and operational handover. You’ll also work with colleagues across Data Governance, Architecture, Technology, Operations, Risk, reporting teams and the wider business to create data solutions people can trust.

What you’ll gain
  • Meaningful engineering work connected to trusted business and member outcomes.
  • Hands-on involvement in an enterprise data warehouse migration.
  • The opportunity to work across SQL Server, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Data Factory and SSIS Integration Runtime.
  • Broad exposure to data governance, architecture, risk, operations and reporting stakeholders.
  • Scope to improve reusable engineering, automation, testing, monitoring and DataOps practices.
What you’ll do
  • Design, build, test and maintain SQL, ETL/ELT and orchestration components across the enterprise data environment.
  • Deliver migration outcomes including source-to-target mapping, migration scripts, reconciliation, variance investigation, testing support, cutover readiness and transition to business-as-usual support.
  • Develop relational, dimensional and lakehouse-ready models and curated datasets for operational, regulatory, board, management and analytical reporting.
  • Build reusable ingestion, transformation, validation, logging, alerting and reconciliation patterns that improve reliability and supportability.
  • Apply disciplined Data Ops practices, including source control, peer review, testing, deployment controls, rollback planning and production validation.
  • Embed metadata, lineage, data quality, ownership and control evidence into delivery, while maintaining clear designs, runbooks and support documentation.
What you’ll bring
Essential
  • At least five years’ experience in data engineering, business intelligence, data warehousing or analytics delivery.
  • Advanced SQL Server development capability, including stored procedures, views, functions, performance tuning and data modelling.
  • Experience designing, testing, scheduling, reconciling and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines for material data flows.
  • Strong knowledge of relational and dimensional modelling, data quality controls and reconciliation.
  • Practical experience working within incident, problem and change management processes.
  • A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with technical specialists, business stakeholders, testers and control partners.
Nice to have
  • Banking or financial-services experience.
  • Experience with enterprise data warehouse or cloud data migrations.
  • Exposure to Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Data Factory or SSIS Integration Runtime.
  • Experience with Power BI Paginated Reports, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Purview, Alation, GitHub or CI/CD automation.
  • Knowledge of Python or PySpark, lakehouse or medallion patterns, metadata and lineage automation, observability or FinOps.
  • Relevant Microsoft Azure, SQL, data engineering, Fabric, Power BI or data-governance certifications.

If your experience covers most, but not every, item in the nice-to-have list, we still encourage you to consider applying.
