Design and build scalable data solutions for a leading global transport organisation.

  • Shape the future of data architecture and integration across a growing international business
  • Join an ASX listed organisation with over 13,000 employees globally
  • Enjoy career development opportunities and access to a range of employee benefits
About the Role

Kelsian Group Limited is seeking a skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our Group Technology team in Adelaide.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically capable Data Engineer who enjoys more than just developing data pipelines and producing reports. We are looking for someone with a strong interest in data architecture, solution design and data transformation, who can help shape how data is structured, connected, managed and used across our global operations.

Reporting to the Data Operations Lead, you will play an important role in designing, developing and maintaining scalable, secure and efficient data solutions that support business intelligence, operational reporting and strategic decision-making.

Working across a diverse technology landscape, you will collaborate with business stakeholders and technology professionals to turn complex data requirements into practical, sustainable solutions.

If you enjoy solving complex data challenges, designing effective architecture and building solutions that make a real difference, we would love to hear from you.

About You

You are an analytical and solutions-focused Data Engineer who combines strong technical capabilities with an understanding of good data architecture principles.

You enjoy understanding how systems connect, designing effective data structures and developing reliable solutions that support both current business needs and future growth.

You are equally comfortable working independently on technical challenges and collaborating with stakeholders to understand requirements, explain solutions and contribute to broader technology initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Data Architecture & Design: Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of data architecture, including data ingestion, integration, transformation and modelling patterns.
  • Data Engineering: Design, develop and maintain reliable data pipelines that integrate information from multiple internal and third-party systems.
  • Data Modelling: Develop structured, reusable and scalable data models that enable accurate reporting, analytics and informed decision-making.
  • Platform Development & Optimisation: Support the ongoing development, administration and optimisation of data and analytics platforms, with a focus on performance, security, scalability and cost efficiency.
  • Data Quality & Governance: Implement effective approaches to data quality, integrity and security, identifying opportunities to strengthen data management practices.
  • Solution Development: Translate business requirements into technical specifications and sustainable data solutions that align with broader technology objectives.
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Work closely with technology teams, business stakeholders and data professionals to improve data capabilities, support users and promote consistent engineering practices.
  • Documentation & Support: Maintain clear technical documentation and contribute to the ongoing reliability, maintenance and improvement of data solutions.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in data engineering, including the design, development and maintenance of data pipelines, data ingestion and transformations, and data models.

  • A sound understanding of data architecture principles, including data ingestion patterns, data structures, transformation methodologies and scalable solution design.

  • Strong SQL skills and practical experience using Python or other relevant data programming languages.

  • Experience with modern cloud-based data platforms, preferably in data warehousing and data architecture. Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment processes would be desirable.

  • Experience working with database technologies and data integration or transformation tools.

  • An understanding of data quality, security, governance and performance optimisation.

  • The ability to gather business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.

  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience working collaboratively within a technology or data and analytics team.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in information technology, data engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Ideally, you will have at least two years' experience working in data engineering or analytics within a corporate environment.

Core requirement: Experience contributing to enterprise data architecture, cloud-based data platforms, particularly within a large, multi-business organisation.

Highly regarded: Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.

Experience in passenger transport or other operationally complex industries would be advantageous but is not essential.
