Job summary

Equinix is seeking aMaintenance Engineer to perform and coordinate maintenance across data center facilities. You will oversee electrical, plumbing, and safety systems, coordinate with specialist vendors, and ensure critical equipment is ready and compliant.

The role involves on-call support and friendly collaboration with internal teams. Ideal candidates possess hands-on experience in critical facility operations, trade qualifications or engineering degree, and strong troubleshooting skills

  • Maintains spare parts and critical spares register.
  • Responds to BMS alarms per policies and escalates when needed.
  • Acts as first responder for incidents during on-call shifts.
  • Coordinates with vendors to ensure work meets Equinix requirements.
  • Supports commissioning and project work with varying scope.
  • Documents work approvals and updates technical files.
  • Develops training for other Data Center staff.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Completes all maintenance protocols, plans, activities on time and accurately, including daily, weekly, and monthly site checks
  • May manage and oversee specialist vendors for all major works, planned repairs and maintenance, electrical, and special systems
  • Ensures that sufficient spare parts are available on site for frequently used parts or parts with long lead times and maintains critical spares register
  • Monitors for and responds to BMS (Building Monitoring System) alarms in accordance with engineering policies and procedures, escalating to and working with Controls Engineering team where required
  • Participate in an on-call roster to act as the first responder for sites’ incidents, managing, resolving, and/or escalating critical issues outside of regular working hours
  • Oversee plumbing, security and fire suppression systems vendor activities
  • Coordinates/oversee work with vendors to ensure that maintenance activities are carried out as per Equinix's requirements
  • Commissioning and project work that will vary in scale and scope over time
  • Edits and tracks the work approval process for service providers (including briefing at the start of work, control of work during the day, final review of the work carried out)
  • Recommend changes/updates to technical files for plants and equipment in cooperation with vendor, and the supervisors, ensuring as built are up to date
  • Creates engineering scripts (switching schedules) and undertake safe switching practice.
  • Ensures that all Equinix safety standards are followed, as well quality procedures related to maintenance, including all Incident Management
  • Reviews processes, procedures, systems. Communicates process deviations and proposed changes to a higher level so that relevant follow-up measures can be carried out
  • Develops training and supports training of other Data Center (International Business Exchange) employees in relevant engineering topics and processes
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to other team members while being mentored on any areas of improvement
Requirements
  • Understanding through practical experience of critical facility operations and equipment, particularly electrical systems and infra
  • Trade qualification or Degree Certified with previous hands-on or service work experience
  • Sound knowledge or understanding of Controls would be a bonus
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing complex mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in time-sensitive situations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively
  • Capability to execute tasks through effort and collaboration without formal written process
  • Collaborative mindset but also with the drive to complete assigned tasks autonomously when required
