Job summary

Ambition in Sydney (in-office) is seeking a data analytics leader to own the end-to-end data reporting stack. You will design and implement how data is captured, stored and reported, building the Power BI suite from the ground up and integrating with the ERP development project.

You’ll bridge FP&A and technical work, automating processes and delivering dashboards for CFO-level decision support as the business scales over the next 12 months.

Qualifications

• Strong SQL skills (SSMS) and ability to write DAX expressions.
• Experience building Power BI dashboards and reporting models from scratch.
• Working knowledge of Power Platform and PowerShell scripting.

Responsibilities

• Own the transition to a single source of truth for data across the business.
• Design how data is captured, stored and reported; build the Power BI reporting suite from the ground up.
• Collaborate with an in-house ERP development team to translate operational and financial data into dashboards for senior leaders.
• Shift between FP&A activities (forecasting, reporting cycles) and technical automation work to scale reporting.
• Provide data-driven insights to support commercial decision-making at senior levels.

You’ve spent your career in data - SQL, Power BI, APIs, automation. Somewhere along the way, you probably picked up some finance related responsibilites - forecasting, reporting cycles, budget cycles - but that’s never been the job. The job has been fixing what’s broken, building what’s missing, and making the numbers usable.

In most roles, that’s exactly where it stops. You build the dashboard, automate the report, and it gets absorbed into someone else’s BAU. Nobody hands you the mandate to actually own how the business captures and reports on its data end to end.

This role changes that.

About the business:

We are exclusively partnered with a fast-scaling company undergoing a major capital expansion. As volume scales over the next 12 months, the business needs financial and commercial decision support that’s backed by data systems robust enough to scale with it. This isn’t a role for someone who wants a settled, steady-state environment.

What your new role looks like:

Reporting directly to the CFO, you’ll take full ownership of the organisation’s transition to a single source of truth, designing how data is captured, stored and reported across the business, and building the Power BI reporting suite from the ground up. You’ll work closely with an in-house software developer building the company’s ERP, translating operational and financial data into dashboards and reports that senior leadership can use.

This isn’t a role where you’re handed a fixed remit and told to stay in your lane. You’ll move fluidly between BAU FP&A (forecasting, EOW/EOM reporting, commercial analysis) and the more technical, exploratory work of automating it all away - with real ownership over how the future state of reporting looks.

What’s different about this role:

This role gives you commercial exposure at CFO level while keeping you hands‑on with the systems and data underneath it, with genuine license to experiment, automate and reshape how the business reports on itself.

About you:

You have:

• Strong SQL skills (SQL Server Management Studio) and confidence writing your own DAX
• Experience building Power BI dashboards and reporting models from scratch
• Working knowledge of Power Platform (Power Automate) and PowerShell scripting
• API experience (REST/GraphQL) and an understanding of how data gateways work
• Comfort working with large datasets - ideally from an FMCG or large organisation background
• It is beneficial to have had experience in an FP&A, financial analysis or commercial finance role
• Strong commercial acumen and the confidence to translate complex data for non-finance stakeholders
