Job summary

Whizdom is seeking an experienced Cyber Security Systems Administrator to join a high-performing cyber security team. The role focuses on day-to-day administration, maintenance, and optimisation of platforms hosting cyber security capabilities and security tooling across secure environments.

You will manage vulnerability management, SIEM, endpoint protection, PAM, and ensure hardening per ISM and NIST standards while collaborating with cyber security, infrastructure, and engineering teams.

Qualifications

  • Experience administering Windows Server and RHEL in security-focused settings.
  • Hands-on with enterprise security platforms (Nessus, Elastic, Trellix, Airlock Digital, Teleport).
  • Experience with virtualisation and container tech (Nutanix, OpenShift, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of IaC tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Terraform.
  • Strong understanding of ISM, Essential Eight, DSPF, NIST, ISO27001.
  • Familiarity with security operations, incident response, best practices.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and documentation skills; relevant qualifications/certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, patch, and upgrade core cyber security platforms and tooling.
  • Manage virtualisation environments: cluster health, capacity, storage, backup, lifecycle, upgrades.
  • Administer container platforms: cluster config, node health, workloads, registry, updates.
  • Build, configure, harden, and support Windows and Linux systems for security ops.
  • Deploy and manage security workloads across virtualised and containerised environments.
  • Configure and optimise security tools for performance and effectiveness.
  • Apply OS/app hardening per ISM, Essential Eight ML3, and NIST standards.
  • Administer Privileged Access Management (PAM) with RBAC, policy, auth, session auditing.
  • Implement least-privilege and tiered administration models.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and runbooks.
  • Support security assessments and provide evidence for ATO activities.
  • Assist investigations with data collection, analysis, and remediation.
  • Adhere to change management processes and governance.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Systems Administrator to join a high-performing cyber security team. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day administration, maintenance, and optimisation of the platforms that host the organisation's cyber security capabilities and the security tools that operate across them.

You will play a key role in administering security technologies such as vulnerability management, SIEM, endpoint protection, application control, and privileged access management solutions. The position also involves building, hardening, and maintaining the underlying infrastructure, including Windows and Linux operating systems, virtualisation platforms, container environments, and network infrastructure, in alignment with ISM and Essential Eight Maturity Level 3 requirements.

This is a hands‑on technical position working across multiple secure environments and collaborating closely with cyber security, infrastructure, and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

As the Cyber Security Systems Administrator, you will:

  • Administer, maintain, patch, and upgrade core cyber security platforms and tooling.
  • Manage virtualisation environments, including cluster health, capacity planning, storage, backup and recovery, platform lifecycle management, and upgrades.
  • Administer container platforms, including cluster configuration, node health, workload deployment, registry management, and platform updates.
  • Build, configure, harden, and support Windows and Linux systems supporting cyber security operations.
  • Deploy and manage security workloads across virtualised and containerised environments.
  • Configure and optimise security tools to balance performance and effectiveness.
  • Apply and maintain operating system and application hardening in accordance with ISM, Essential Eight ML3, and NIST security standards.
  • Administer Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions, including role‑based access control, policy management, authentication integration, and session auditing.
  • Implement and maintain least‑privilege and tiered administration models.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, system configurations, operational procedures, and as‑built documentation.
  • Support security assessments and provide technical evidence and subject matter expertise for Authority to Operate (ATO) activities.
  • Assist with cyber security investigations and incidents through data collection, analysis, troubleshooting, and remediation activities.
  • Adhere to formal change management processes and governance requirements.
What You Will Bring

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience administering Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments within a security-focused setting.
  • Hands‑on experience with one or more security technologies such as Nessus, Elastic, Trellix, Airlock Digital, Teleport, or similar enterprise security platforms.
  • Experience supporting and maintaining virtualisation and container technologies, including Nutanix, OpenShift, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Ansible, Puppet, and Terraform.
  • Strong understanding of security frameworks and standards, including the Information Security Manual (ISM), Essential Eight, DSPF, NIST, and ISO 27001.
  • Familiarity with cyber security operations, incident response processes, and security best practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and technical documentation skills.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or industry certifications.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
  • RHCSA or RHCE certification.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • Microsoft and other vendor‑specific certifications.
  • Experience with Arista networking technologies.
  • Experience with Palo Alto Networks security solutions.

Security Requirements
