Job summary

we.people pty ltd in Brisbane is growing its cyber security practice and seeks a curious, driven Cyber Engineer to help shape what comes next. You will design, configure and implement security controls across the Microsoft stack and cloud environments, gaining hands-on experience that leads toward security architecture and compliance.

You'll be mentored by a Cyber Security Manager with 20 years' experience who will train you in both technical and governance paths, offering a clear pathway toward

Qualifications

• At least 3 years' experience in a senior IT (Level 3) or security engineering role.
• Solid understanding of security controls and why they exist.
• Hands-on with the Microsoft stack, including Microsoft 365 and cloud security.
• Familiar with vulnerability scanning and management tools.
• An inquisitive mind, asks questions and fixes misconfigurations.
• The confidence to say “I'm not sure, let me check”.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to different audiences.
• Knowledge of ISO 27001, NIST or the Essential Eight.
• Exposure to security architecture, risk management or compliance programs.
• Experience delivering security projects or consulting services.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and improve cyber security controls across the Microsoft stack and cloud environments.
• Help scope security projects and build architecture plans that meet compliance requirements.
• Advise clients and internal teams on the best security option for a given scenario.
• Support vulnerability management, scanning and remediation.
• Dig into system configurations, ask why things are set the way they are, and fix what isn't right.
• Support security assessments and governance initiatives against recognised frameworks.
• Investigate security issues and help develop risk mitigation strategies.
• Work alongside technical teams to deliver secure outcomes.
