Job summary

St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland is seeking a Crisis Support Worker for its Broadbeach site. You will provide trauma-informed, client-centred assistance to women and children in crisis accommodation, guiding them from intake to transition and building skills for independent living.

You’ll coordinate holistic case management, safety planning and access to housing, services and community connections, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team in a not-for-profit setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum Certificate III in Community Services or related field (Mandatory).
• Hold or be eligible to obtain a Blue Card (Working with Children Check) prior to commencement.
• Understanding of DFV dynamics, risk assessment, safety planning and trauma‑informed practice.
• Experience working with culturally diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Ability to navigate crisis environments with calm, grounded decision‑making.
• Knowledge of and ability to work within relevant legislation and guidelines relating to the delivery of specialist homelessness services.
• Previous experience as a Support Worker or equivalent within the homelessness support sector or related field.
• Ability to deliver advocacy on behalf of clients and always ensure confidentiality of client information.
• Ability to work unsupervised at times as well as an effective team member.
• Contribute positively within a team environment.
• Demonstrate a friendly, positive attitude, with a willingness to learn.
• Effective communication and time management skills.
• Demonstrate genuine respect for all people regardless of their situation.

Responsibilities

• Provide holistic, trauma-informed support to clients experiencing domestic and family violence.
• Deliver case management, including assessment, safety planning and goal setting.
• Support clients to access safe housing, services and community connections.
• Advocate for clients and assist them to navigate complex systems.
• Build trust through respectful, strengths-based engagement.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to a safe, well-run environment.
• Work collaboratively within a supportive multidisciplinary team.
