Job description

Job Description

At North Sydney Council, we believe that creativity is a vital thread in the fabric of community life. We are looking for a passionate and imaginative Creative Projects Officer to join our Arts, Library and Events team - someone who can transform vision into action, and inspire others through the power of art and culture.

North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney's picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 77,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands and a bustling CBD.

The role

In these roles, you will be the driving force behind a wide array of cultural and creative programs-some delivered by Council, others in collaboration with the rich network of artists, organisations and communities that call North Sydney home. You will help bring ideas to life in our streets, libraries, galleries, parks and public spaces, ensuring that culture is woven into the everyday experiences of our residents and visitors.

You will work closely with the Team Leader to develop and deliver meaningful creative projects that reflect the diversity and identity of our local government area. Whether curating public programs, shaping our biennial North Sydney Art Prize, or helping to tell local stories through art and experience, your work will build connections, foster participation, and enrich the cultural landscape of the area.

Your creativity will be matched by your capacity to coordinate projects, navigate Council processes, and contribute to long-term planning. You will be part of a dynamic creative projects team that's committed to innovation, inclusion, and cultural leadership. From activating public spaces with bold artistic interventions to collaborating with schools, arts collectives and community groups, you will be a key figure in shaping the cultural heartbeat of North Sydney.

The person

We are looking for people with a deep appreciation of the arts, and a commitment to inclusive, intersectional, and culturally diverse practices. You may come from a background in cultural development, arts administration, community engagement or creative production-but above all, you'll bring a curious mind and the ability to make things happen.

As a Creative Projects Officer you will ensure creative and cultural needs are identified and addressed for the North Sydney community,. You will be an advocate for the role of culture in our society and exhibit a deep understanding and appreciation of culturally diverse and intersectional leadership values.

This position requires availability for occasional weekend work.

Why work at NSC?

We're committed to creating a diverse, inclusive and positive workplace. Our teams are reflective of the communities in which we operate, and we value the unique contribution each member makes to the North Sydney Council. The work we do makes a real difference to the lives of our residents and contributes to their economic and social wellbeing.

North Sydney Council as an employer offers excellent employee benefits such as:
  • Easy accessibility to work with spectacular harbour view work locations
  • Access to Fitness Passport

  • Freedom to direct contributions to any compliant superannuation fund
  • A holistic health and well-being program offering exercise classes, flu vaccinations, skin checks
  • Access to employee recognition and reward program
  • Weekly fruit baskets
  • Free access to counselling sessions through our Employee Assistance Program
  • Free financial advice by a certified Financial Planner
  • Monetary transport allowance
  • Invitations to local government events, training and planning sessions
  • Access to corporate social events at picturesque harbour locations
  • Close locale to transport options including train, bus, metro and bike ways
