Job summary

The City of Canterbury Bankstown (CBCity) is offering a permanent full-time Project Officer role to advance waste, recycling, and circular economy initiatives. You will oversee strategic projects, engage stakeholders, and help shape policies for current and future needs.

Join a large NSW Council with diverse communities, and contribute to master plans, tenders, and service improvements while supporting senior waste leaders.

Qualifications

  • Formal qualification or strong experience in environmental management or waste/recycling sectors.
  • Proven ability to manage projects, from planning to delivery and evaluation.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills for cross-functional collaboration.

  • Support development and improvement of waste, recycling and circular-economy services and master plans.
  • Provide strategic guidance for major waste and cleansing projects.
  • Work with stakeholders to improve waste management in developments and guide planners and developers.
  • Contribute to planning documents to ensure waste considerations are integrated.
  • Assist with tenders, service agreements and procurement processes for waste services.
  • Provide strategic waste advice to Council and the community.

We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 380,000 residents

The Role

A rewarding opportunity has presented itself for a dedicated and driven individual to join our team as a Project Officer

In this role youwill support the development and improvement of Council's critical waste, recycling and circular economy-related plans, projects, policies and strategies so they can effectively respond to the City's current and emerging needs and react to future changes in the industry and community. You Will also Guide key strategic waste, recycling, circular-economy and cleansing projects so they provide the City with the direction and resources needed to address issues and challenges.

*This opportunity will be offered on a permanent full-time basis

Duties will include but not be limited to:
  • Support the development and improvement of waste, recycling and circular-economy services, including initiatives such as FOGO collections.
  • Provide strategic guidance for major waste, recycling and cleansing projects, including waste and circular-economy strategies and master plans.
  • Work with stakeholders to improve waste management in existing and new developments, including reviewing development applications and preparing guidance for planners and developers.
  • Contribute to local and city-wide planning documents to ensure waste considerations are incorporated effectively.
  • Assist with waste-related tenders, service agreements and procurement processes to secure effective services.
  • Provide strategic and specialist waste advice to Counci and the community.
  • Identify innovative, creative and practical solutions to address key waste-management challenges locally and across the state.
  • Build partnerships and represent Council in strategic projects and industry forums, while supporting senior waste and sustainability leaders as required.
You will have:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Management, Science, or similar, and/or relevant industry experience supported by waste and resource recovery experience.
  • Previous experience in and demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging issues and trends in the waste, recycling, and circular-economy sectors.
  • Demonstrated understanding of waste-related legislation, policy, procedures and contract management.
  • Proven skills and experience in project management including planning, establishing priorities, allocation and management of resources and budget and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated skills, experience and critical thinking in the development of planning and strategy documents and delivery of strategic waste, recycling and/or circular-economy projects.
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience in report writing including ability to measure, evaluate and meet reporting requirements.
  • High level of computer literacy with good working knowledge of Microsoft office software.
  • Strong organisational skills, accurate record keeping and a methodical approach.
  • High level of problem solving and evaluation skills.

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $97,327 (Grade G, Step 1) + 12% super.Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience
