Job summary

NSW Department of Communities and Justice is seeking motivated Correctional Officers to supervise inmates, conduct searches, and support rehabilitation across NSW facilities. The role offers a 12-week paid training course, flexible hours, and the opportunity to earn a nationally recognised Certificate III in Correctional Practise.

Career development into specialized roles is available. Applicants must meet age, citizenship, license, and fitness requirements and may be assigned to Long Bay

Qualifications

Must be 18 years or older.
Current valid driver's licence is required.
Australian citizen or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
Willing to complete Certificate III in Correctional Practise.
Must meet medical standards and fitness requirements.

Responsibilities

Carry out daily tasks to ensure safety, security and rehabilitation of inmates.
Perform daily accountability routines (muster, head checks, observation).
Conduct searches and detentions to remove contraband and monitor inmates.
Manage inmate requests for services and escalate when needed.
Supervise offender activities in work, living or approved zones with fairness and safe practices.
