Job summary

NSW Department of Communities and Justice is seeking Corrections Officers to help keep NSW communities safe. Working across prisons and court cells, you will supervise and manage inmates in secured environments, using your judgement and clear communication as part of a team.

The role includes a 12-week paid training course and a nationally recognised Certificate III in Correctional Practice, with salary plus allowances, and shifts with penalty rates. Closing date 31/12/2026.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 18 years old.
• Current Provisional P1 Driver's Licence.
• Australian or New Zealand Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
• Willing to complete Certificate III in Correctional Practice.
• Meets medical standards and has reasonable level of fitness.
• Visible body art may be disclosed as per dress policy.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage inmates in secured environments.
• Conduct headcounts, searches, and monitor inmate movements.
• Help run work programs and other activities.
• Remain calm and make decisions under pressure; use of force training as required.
