Job summary

NSW Department of Communities and Justice is seeking Correctional Officers to supervise inmates in correctional facilities across New South Wales, including prisons and court cells. You will contribute to community safety and assist offenders in finding paths for improvement.

You will undertake searches, monitor behaviours, and communicate effectively, ensuring safety and security while upholding fairness and rehabilitation principles.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 18 years old.
• Current valid driver's licence; MR licence must be obtained within 3 months of appointment.
• Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
• Willing to complete Certificate III in Correctional Practise.
• Meet medical standards to be a correctional officer and maintain fitness.
• Body art policy compliance per dress manual.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out daily tasks to ensure safety, well-being, security and rehabilitation of inmates.
• Perform muster, head checks and ongoing observation of offenders.
• Conduct searches to remove contraband and monitor inmates for safety.
• Manage inmates' requests for services or assist as needed.
• Supervise offender activities in work, living or approved zones with fairness and safety.
