About the opportunity:

Every child deserves to grow up safe, connected and thriving. Every family deserves support that recognises their strengths while responding to challenges before they become crises.

At Uniting, that's what we work towards every day.

We're looking for an experienced and compassionate leader to join our Early Intervention leadership team as Coordinator – Family Support & Creative Parenting Spaces.

This is a key leadership role responsible for coordinating a child protection casework program. You'll provide practice leadership to a multidisciplinary team supporting children and families experiencing vulnerability, with a strong focus on child safety, risk assessment, case planning and achieving positive outcomes for children and their families.

You'll bring a strong understanding of child protection practice and the ability to support practitioners to identify and respond to risks, work collaboratively with families and navigate complex circumstances. Your leadership will help ensure children remain at the centre of practice, while families are supported in a strengths-based, trauma-informed and culturally responsive way.

This is more than a management role. It's an opportunity to lead high-quality child protection and early intervention practice, develop practitioners, strengthen partnerships and help create safer, stronger futures for children and families.

You’ll lead and support a passionate multidisciplinary team of Caseworkers, Early Childhood Facilitators and Supported Playgroup Facilitators delivering casework, parenting education, supported playgroups and early intervention services.

Your leadership will directly influence the quality, safety and consistency of the support families receive.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Coordinate the delivery of a child protection casework program, ensuring high-quality, child-centred practice and positive outcomes for children and families.
  • Provide strong practice leadership across child protection, casework and early intervention, supporting practitioners to respond appropriately to risk, vulnerability and complexity.
  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing multidisciplinary team through reflective supervision, professional development and practice leadership.
  • Support staff to undertake effective assessment, case planning, risk identification, safety planning and referral pathways in accordance with relevant legislation, policy and practice frameworks.
  • Ensure children's safety and wellbeing remain central to decision-making, while engaging families respectfully and working alongside them to strengthen their capacity and outcomes.
  • Create a psychologically safe culture where people feel supported, valued and empowered to grow their practice.
  • Oversee quality casework, parenting programs, supported playgroups and early intervention services, ensuring they achieve meaningful outcomes for children and families.
  • Provide guidance and support to practitioners managing complex family circumstances, including issues relating to child protection, family violence, trauma, disadvantage and vulnerability.
  • Build strong partnerships with community organisations, schools, government agencies and other local stakeholders to strengthen outcomes for children and families.
  • Drive culturally safe and inclusive practice that supports Aboriginal families, CALD communities and refugee families.
  • Monitor program performance, referrals, reporting requirements, compliance and funding outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities for service improvement and support the implementation of evidence-based practice.
  • Work collaboratively with the Early Intervention leadership team to strengthen child and family services across the region.
Your Qualifications & Experience
  • A degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years' experience working with children, young people and families, including a minimum of 2 years' experience in a leadership role.
  • Strong experience in child protection, family support, early intervention or community services, with demonstrated experience coordinating or overseeing casework programs.
  • A sound understanding of child protection practice, risk assessment, mandatory reporting, case planning and relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide practice leadership and support practitioners working with complex and vulnerable children and families.
  • Experience providing reflective supervision, mentoring staff and developing practice capability.
  • The ability to balance child safety and risk considerations with strengths-based, trauma-informed and family-inclusive practice.
  • Experience building collaborative partnerships across government, community and service sectors.
  • A commitment to culturally responsive practice and working respectfully alongside Aboriginal communities, culturally diverse families and refugee communities.
  • Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A current Driver’s Licence and NSW Working with Children Check.
