Job summary

Blacktown City Council is seeking a Coordinator Building Assessment to lead a skilled technical team responsible for low-rise development and certification across one of Australia’s largest councils.

You will oversee Development Applications, Construction Certificates, Complying Development Certificates and Occupation Certificates, mentor staff, shape policy and provide expert guidance on legislation and Building Code of Australia to deliver safe, compliant and sustainable communities.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in building surveying, certification or development assessment.
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and building standards.

As Coordinator Building Assessment, you will lead a high-performing team of assessment professionals responsible for low-rise development and certification matters across one of Australia's largest and fastest-growing councils. You will oversee the assessment of Development Applications, Construction Certificates, Complying Development Certificates and Occupation Certificates, ensuring decisions are consistent, lawful and delivered in the public interest.

Working within a dynamic and high-volume environment, you will review complex proposals, provide specialist advice on building and development matters, and apply your expertise to support sound and practical outcomes for the community, industry and Council. You will lead and support a team of assessment professionals, managing workloads, reviewing technical recommendations, mentoring staff and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement. You will also prepare reports, attend meetings, respond to enquiries from residents, developers and industry professionals, and provide expert guidance on legislation, regulations and the Building Code of Australia.

Beyond day-to-day operations, you will play an important role in shaping the future direction of Council's building assessment and certification functions. You will identify opportunities to improve policies, procedures and service delivery, helping ensure consistent, efficient and customer-focused outcomes. Your work will directly influence how Blacktown City grows. Through effective leadership and sound judgement, you will help maintain confidence in Council's regulatory services, support responsible development and contribute to safe, compliant and sustainable communities.
