Job summary

Calvary Elouera Aged Care in Torquay is seeking a Cook to plan and prepare meals that meet residents' individual needs and preferences, aligning with care plans and nutritional guidelines in a supportive team.

You will ensure meals follow IDDSI standards, manage dietary requirements, maintain hygiene and food safety, and support the kitchen on busy days under the direction of the Home Manager.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of IDDSI and nutritional guidelines.
  • Ability to cook meals in line with planned menus.
  • Completion of HLTFSE001 - Follow Basic Food Safety Practices or willingness to obtain.
  • Effective interpersonal communication; both written and verbal.
  • Working knowledge of WH&S and Infection Control.
  • Ability to operate standard domestic and industrial kitchen equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare daily meals and beverages that meet individual resident needs, including special dietary requirements and allergies.
  • Support service delivery and monitor actions to continuously improve food service under direction.
  • Ensure IDDSI, dietary requirements and cultural meals are catered for.
  • Maintain high cleanliness and safety of the resident environment.
  • Adhere to National Food Safety Program and document food safety records.
  • Serve nutritious meals in well-presented form and at correct temperatures.
  • Assist in running the kitchen in the absence of Cook/Chef Manager and supervise the team.
  • Provide social and emotional support to residents as part of holistic care.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Leadership to review and document dietary interventions.

About the role

The Cook supports the home in the planning and preparation of all meals to ensure the individual needs residents are being met and ensures that each resident is offered choice. The Cook ensures all meals are prepared in line with care plans, nutritional guidelines, Calvary National Choice Menu, Calvary National Dining and Nutrition Guide and relevant legislation. The position of Cook is part of an integrated team of people working within an established and agreed framework supporting the resident to live their best life.

Your main duties will include:
  • Prepare daily meals and beverages that meet individual needs of each resident including special dietary requirements, allergies and culturally specific requirements.
  • Support service delivery, monitor and suggest actions to continuously improve food service under the direction of the Home Manager/Chef Manager or Chef.
  • Accountable for ensuring residents IDDSI, special dietary requirements, allergies and culturally specific meals are catered for
  • Ensure environmental service standards are met and maintained, and the residents living environment is safe and maintained to a high standard of cleanliness.
  • Ensuring that all duties are worked in accordance with the National Food Safety Program at all times including completing food safety records and the prevention of cross contamination.
  • Serve nutritious meals in well-presented manner and at the appropriate temperature.
  • Assume responsibility for the effective running of the kitchen in the absence of Cook/Chef Manager including supervising the team to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Provide social and emotional support to all residents ensuring that care provision is holistic and person centred.
  • Liaise with the Clinical Leadership team of the home to ensure resident dietary requirements are reviewed and appropriate dietary interventions are documented as required
About you
