Job summary

BlueCare Toowoomba Aged Care Facility is seeking a Cook to join our kitchen team on a permanent part-time basis. You will prepare and present meals that meet dietary needs and resident preferences, complying with IDDSI standards and food safety practices.

Working under the Home Services Lead and with the Chef, you will help deliver a high-quality dining experience, maintain a clean work environment and contribute to resident wellbeing. Shifts can start early and include weekends.

Qualifications

  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent)
  • Food safety knowledge and safe food handling practices
  • Understanding of IDDSI, allergens and dietary requirements
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and follow direction
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook and serve meals in line with menus and dietary requirements
  • Ensure meals meet IDDSI, allergen and cultural needs
  • Deliver meals that are well-presented and at correct temperature
  • Support food preparation, portioning and kitchen operations
  • Follow safe food handling, hygiene and infection control standards
  • Complete documentation including temperature checks and logs
  • Identify and report hazards, incidents or equipment faults

About the role:

The Cook supports the delivery of a high‑quality, safe and resident‑centred dining experience by preparing and presenting meals that meet organisational standards, dietary needs and resident preferences. The role works under the direction of the Home Services Lead and collaboratively with the Chef to ensure meals are enjoyable, consistent and contribute to resident dignity, wellbeing and comfort. As a key member of the kitchen team, the Cook maintains a clean, safe and efficient work environment, follows established procedures and supports positive interactions with residents, families and colleagues.

  • Prepare, cook and serve meals in line with corporate menus, recipes and dietary requirements
  • Ensure all meals meet IDDSI, allergen, cultural and texture-modified needs
  • Deliver meals that are well‑presented, appetising and served at the correct temperature
  • Support food preparation, portioning, plating and kitchen operations
  • Follow safe food handling, hygiene and infection control standards
  • Complete documentation including temperature checks, cleaning logs and production records
  • Identify and report hazards, incidents or equipment faults
Role requirements:
  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent experience)
  • Food safety knowledge and safe food handling practices
  • Understanding of special diets, allergens and IDDSI requirements
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and follow direction
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to resident‑centred care and positive dining experiences
  • Basic computer and documentation skills
  • Experience in aged care or healthcare food service (highly regarded)
  • Satisfy the relevant probity checks required by legislation or organisational policy
