Job summary

Samir's Indian Kitchen is seeking a full-time Cook with strong knowledge of Indian cuisine to prepare authentic dishes in a busy kitchen. You will work on curries, tandoori, breads, rice and other specialties, following recipes while maintaining quality and presentation.

The role requires previous commercial cookery experience in Indian cuisine, ability to work under pressure, and a commitment to hygiene and teamwork. Australia-based candidates with residency are preferred.

Qualifications

• Commercial cookery experience, preferably in Indian cuisine.
• Knowledge of Indian ingredients and cooking techniques.
• Certifications in cookery or hospitality management.
• Australian citizenship or permanent residency (as required).

Job description

As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a wide range of authentic Indian dishes in a busy commercial kitchen. You will work with strong knowledge of authentic Indian cuisine, excellent cooking skills and the ability to work efficiently during service.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing and cooking a wide range of authentic Indian dishes
• Preparing curries, tandoori dishes, rice, breads, entrees and other Indian specialties
• Following recipes and maintaining consistent taste, quality and presentation
• Preparing ingredients and organising the kitchen for daily service
• Ensuring food is prepared, stored and handled in accordance with food safety requirements
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and kitchen safety
• Monitoring food quality and freshness
• Assisting with stock control, ordering and minimising food wastage
• Working efficiently during busy service periods
• Assisting with menu preparation and development of Indian dishes

About you

• Previous commercial experience as Cook or Chef in Indian cuisine
• Strong knowledge of Indian cuisine, ingredients and cooking techniques
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work under pressure in a busy kitchen
• Strong attention to food quality, hygiene and presentation
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, Certificate IV in Kitchen Management or a Diploma in Hospitality Management/Cookery is required
• Australian citizenship or permanent residency is required
