Job summary

Embedded Expertise is seeking an experienced ITS Systems Engineer to design and integrate communications and ITS infrastructure for tunnel and motorway operations in Melbourne. You will contribute from concept through detailed design to FAT, testing, and commissioning, coordinating with electrical, SCADA, controls, mechanical, and civil teams.

This role focuses on delivering safe, connected transport networks in critical infrastructure projects and requires strong technical and stakeholder

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical/ Electronics/ Telecommunications/ Mechatronics or related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of Ethernet/IP communications, industrial networks, and system integration.
• Experience in transport, tunnel, motorway, utilities or critical infrastructure projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

We are seeking an experienced ITS Systems Engineer to support the design, integration, and delivery of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), communications networks, fibre infrastructure, and tunnel operational technologies across major motorway and tunnel projects.

About the Role

As an ITS Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and integration of communications and ITS infrastructure supporting tunnel and motorway operations. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will contribute to projects from concept and detailed design through to testing and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and deliver:
• Motorway Network Communication Systems (MNCS)
• Tunnel ITS Systems
• Tunnel Enforcement Systems
• Tolling Communications & Power Supply Systems
• Operational Technology (OT) and Control System Interfaces
• Develop system architectures, network topologies, interface designs, and technical documentation.
• Prepare specifications, reports, calculations, and engineering deliverables.
• Coordinate with electrical, SCADA, controls, mechanical, and civil engineering teams.
• Support systems integration, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site testing, and commissioning activities.
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and stakeholder workshops.
• Ensure compliance with project requirements, Australian Standards, and transport authority specifications.

About You

• Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
