Job summary

Embedded Expertise is seeking a Communications Engineer to join a multidisciplinary design team delivering critical communications systems for major tunnel and transport infrastructure projects in Australia. You will design, integrate, and deliver mission-critical communications that support safe operations, emergency response, and reliable day-to-day communications.

You will collaborate with electrical, ITS, control systems, and OT teams to create robust solutions, develop coverage

Qualifications

• Experience designing and integrating communications systems.
• Knowledge of wireless communications, radio, fibre networks, and telecom infrastructure.
• Experience on transport, tunnel, utilities, defence, or critical infrastructure projects.
• Strong technical documentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop Public Address (PA) systems and related comms
• Prepare system architectures, specifications, calculations, and design docs
• Develop communications coverage and performance requirements for tunnels and infra
• Coordinate interfaces between communications, ITS, electrical, and control systems
• Participate in design reviews, safety assessments, testing and commissioning
• Ensure compliance with Australian Standards and project specs
• Support contractors, integrators, and project teams during delivery phases

About the Role

As a Communications Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, integration, and delivery of mission-critical communications systems across major transport and tunnel projects.

You will work closely with electrical, ITS, control systems, and operational technology teams to develop robust and reliable communication solutions that support day-to-day operations and emergency response requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop:
• Public Address (PA) Systems
• Prepare system architectures, specifications, calculations, and design documentation.
• Develop communications coverage and performance requirements for tunnel and infrastructure environments.
• Coordinate interfaces between communications, ITS, electrical, and control systems.
• Participate in design reviews, safety assessments, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards, transport authority specifications, and project requirements.
• Support contractors, integrators, and project teams during project delivery phases.

About You

• Degree qualification in Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience in communications system design and integration.
• Knowledge of wireless communications, radio systems, fibre networks, and telecommunications infrastructure.
• Experience working on transport, tunnel, utilities, defence, or critical infrastructure projects.
• Strong technical documentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
