Job summary

Pivotal Engineering Pty Ltd in Brisbane seeks a dynamic Control Systems Engineer with Ignition SCADA experience to design, develop and maintain industrial control systems for mining, heavy industry and utilities. You will contribute to safety, innovation and collaboration within the engineering team.

You will lead PLC/RTU/HMI/SCADA programming, validate systems on client sites, and work across mechanical, electrical and software disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Electrical, Electronics or Mechatronic Engineering.
• Minimum five years of control systems design and development experience.
• Minimum two years of Ignition SCADA experience.
• Strong understanding of control systems theory and industrial processes.
• Experience with Ignition, Plant SCADA and FactoryTalk View.
• PLC programming on Schneider Electric, Allen-Bradley or Siemens.
• Knowledge of PLC networks and protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT).
• Design and deployment of SCADA systems including architecture and scripting.
• Experience integrating SCADA with databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, InfluxDB).
• Familiar with Docker and Kubernetes; excellent communication and teamwork.
• Experience on client sites.

Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Control Systems Engineer with Ignition SCADA project experience to join our growing Queensland team. This role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining industrial control systems in the mining, heavy industrial and utility industries. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for innovation, a commitment to safety, and a collaborative approach to engineering challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

• Full lifecycle of Control System development.
• Conceptual design and front-end engineering design.
• Documentation, including functional specifications, test specifications and operation and maintenance manuals.
• PLC, RTU, HMI and SCADA programming and testing
• Commission and validate control systems, ensuring they meet project requirements and standards.
• Develop and implement control algorithms and logic to optimise system performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, to ensure integrated systems operate efficiently.
• Provide technical guidance to project team throughout the design, development, and testing phases.
• Participate in the development and implementation of standards and best practices for control systems engineering in the mining industry.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Electrical, Electronics or Mechatronic Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of five years of related experience in control systems design and development.
• Minimum of two years of experience with Ignition SCADA.
• Strong understanding of control systems theory and principles as they apply to industrial processes.
• Experienced with various HMI/SCADA systems, in particular Ignition, Plant SCADA & FactoryTalk View
• Experienced with PLC programming and fault finding on various platforms, in particular Schneider Electric, Allen Bradley, or Siemens PLCs
• Strong understanding of PLC systems and industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT)
• Demonstrated ability to design and deploy SCADA systems, including architecture, scripting, and enterprise implementations
• Familiarity with integrating SCADA systems with databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, InfluxDB) and enterprise applications
• Familiar with Docker, Kubernetes
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience working on client sites.
• Excellent oral / written communication skills and ability to present technical information clearly and concisely.
• Proven ability to build and grow internal and client relationships.
