Job summary

Carecone Group is looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract in Melbourne. The role focuses on building scalable data pipelines, transforming data with dbt on Snowflake, and delivering Power BI analytics for informed decision‑making.

You will work in a hybrid setup (4 days in office), collaborating with IT and business units to optimise data assets and governance. Competitive AUD 110k–130k package including super.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of hands‑on data engineering experience in an enterprise environment.
• Experience with Snowflake architecture, performance tuning, and cost control.
• Hands‑on experience with dbt (Cloud/Core), Jinja, and Fivetran.
• Advanced SQL and Python skills, alongside experience with Azure DevOps for data workflows.
• In‑depth knowledge of Kimball/Inmon medallion architecture concepts.

Responsibilities

• Data Engineering & Orchestration: Build reusable, scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for structured, semi‑structured, and unstructured data using tools like Fivetran and Airflow.
• Data Transformation & Modelling: Design and maintain complex dbt models in Snowflake using medallion architecture (Kimball/Inmon) and implement rigorous data quality testing.
• Data Visualisation: Develop and optimise Power BI semantic models, DAX measures, and interactive reports; manage Power BI Service environments, workspace administration, and Row‑Level Security (RLS).
• CI/CD & DevOps: Build and support automated deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps and Git across Dev, UAT, and Production environments.
• Stakeholder Management & Collaboration: Partner with data analysts and business leads to translate requirements into technical specs, manage project status, and solve operational data issues.
• Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify cost and compute optimisations across cloud setups, establish standard documentation, and participate in peer code reviews.
