Job summary

IRM Interiors Pty Ltd is seeking a Construction Site Supervisor for Melbourne Metropolitan projects on commercial fitout and refurbishment sites. The role focuses on on-site supervision, subcontractor coordination and safety compliance to meet drawings, specs and programme.

You will coordinate trades, interpret drawings, and oversee labour and material flows with a hands-on approach and a commitment to safe, quality delivery on live environments.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Building and Construction or equivalent qualification required.
• Experience supervising commercial fitout/refurbishment projects.
• Ability to read construction drawings and coordinate multiple trades.
• Experience implementing onsite OHS procedures (inductions, SWMS, inspections).
• Current White Card and driver's licence required.
• Experience working on occupied buildings is highly regarded.

Our directors, project managers, supervisors and in-house trades work closely together, supported by our own joinery division. We take a practical approach to construction, with clear communication, reliable delivery and attention to the finished result.

The role

We are seeking a Construction Site Supervisor to manage day-to-day site activities on our commercial fitout and refurbishment projects.

Reporting to the Project Manager and Construction Manager, you will coordinate subcontractors, in-house trades, labour and materials, maintain safe working conditions and check that work is completed to the drawings, specifications and programme.

This is primarily an onsite supervision role. You will also assist with occasional labouring, material handling, site protection, housekeeping and minor miscellaneous works within your skills and qualifications.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily construction activities and coordinate subcontractors, trades and labour.
• Read and interpret drawings, specifications and construction details, raising discrepancies with the project team.
• Plan the sequence of works and organise labour, materials, deliveries and equipment to meet the construction programme.
• Coordinate services and building trades, identifying clashes and checking work before ceilings and walls are closed up.
• Inspect workmanship and materials against project requirements, identify defects and arrange rectification.
• Implement IRM’s OHS procedures, including site inductions, toolbox talks, SWMS checks, site inspections and corrective actions.
• Monitor work practices, address hazards and stop unsafe work, escalating issues to management.
• Maintain site records, including daily progress, labour usage, deliveries, safety inspections and incidents.
• Monitor progress and resource usage, reporting delays, additional works and potential cost impacts to the Project Manager.
• Coordinate access and work areas with building management and occupants, particularly in live and occupied environments.
• Organise completion works, defects and site readiness for handover.
• Assist with occasional practical site tasks while maintaining responsibility for supervision and coordination.

About you

You will have:

• Experience supervising building construction sites, preferably commercial fitout and refurbishment projects.
• A Diploma of Building and Construction or a relevant equivalent qualification, or substantial relevant experience at a comparable level.
• The ability to interpret construction drawings and coordinate multiple trades.
• Practical knowledge of construction methods, trade sequencing and quality requirements.
• Experience implementing onsite OHS procedures, including inductions, SWMS, inspections and hazard management.
• Clear communication skills and the confidence to give direction, resolve site issues and keep the project team informed.
• Good organisation and the ability to maintain accurate site records.
• A current construction induction White Card and driver’s licence.

A trade background and experience working in occupied buildings will be highly regarded.
