Job summary

Otis Elevator Company invites applications for Construction Mechanics based in Canberra, ACT. The permanent role reports to the Project Manager and involves installation and modernization of lifts, escalators and travellators, with travel across regional areas as needed on projects.

Qualifications

• Holds a Trade Certificate in Electrotechnology and/or Grade A Electrical License with an Industry White Card.
• Experience in adjustment, commissioning, or fitting work; asbestos awareness is preferred.
• Experience in elevator industry; ability to work safely as part of a team or independently.
• Willing to travel across regional areas and work unsupervised.
• Excellent communication with stakeholders and strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Installation and modernization of lifts, escalators, and travellators with high safety standards.
• Ensure work complies with Codes (AS1735, AS3000) and applicable awards/agreements.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and materials and safeguard property.
• Follow Environmental Health and Safety policies and report issues.
• Maintain Quality System and adhere to industry codes and standards.
• Attend customer handover and service inspections on projects.

We are currently looking for Construction Mechanics to be based in Canberra, ACT

About you

You will be face of Otis brand and responsible for the installation of lifts, escalators and travellators in compliance, with the relevant codes and Otis specifications and procedures.

This position will require you to travel across regional areas within each state as needed on a project basis.

In this role, you will work closely with other Installers, Electricians, Adjusters, Trade Assistants & Field Engineers as well as Construction Coordinators.

Key responsibilities

• Installation and Modernisation of lifts, escalators and travellators and work to the highest safety and environmental standards whilst ensuring that service targets are met.
• Ensures work is performed in accordance with the relevant Codes, including SAA Lift Code AS1735 and AS3000 while performing work in accordance with the relevant Award and / or Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.
• Maintain company tools, equipment and material in good order and safeguard such property.
• Comply with the company Environmental Health and Safety policies and procedures including reporting any conditions which may impact on the environment or any employee.
• Maintain and work to the Quality System and perform work in accordance with the relevant lift industry codes and standards.
• Attend customer handing over inspection / service inspections on installation and modernization projects.
• Ensure timely completion of defects identified during service / handing over inspection in coordination with Project Manager.
• Identify process improvement opportunities and help facilitate continuous improvement to satisfy the customers of your processes.

What you will need to be successful

• Holds a Trade Certificate in Electrotechnology and /or Grade A Electrical License with an Industry White Card.
• Experience in Adjustment / Commissioning/ Fitting work would be beneficial. Those with Asbestos awareness will be preferred.
• Have experience in the elevator industry and proven ability to work safely as part of a team or independently.
• Willing to travel in & out of the region and able to work unsupervised.
• Enjoys communicating with various level of stakeholders and work closely with others in the field.
• Solutions-oriented, independent, and well organized.
• Has the ability to perform knowledge transfer on information and skills through training.
• Able to plan and prioritise tasks and complete in a timely manner.
