Job summary

Coffey Testing is seeking an experienced Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician to join our Sydney team based at the Melrose Park laboratory. The role requires hands-on testing in field and laboratory environments with a focus on quality and safety.

Ideal candidates will have 2+ years in CMT, strong knowledge of Australia standards, and the ability to liaise with clients onsite. This full-time role offers opportunities across projects in rail, mining and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with client onsite on testing schedules, procedures and results, representing Coffey Testing.
• Perform routine quality assurance checks and calibrations, ensuring equipment is maintained.
• Complete tests including Triaxials, permeabilities, aggregates, rock testing and materials.
• Work in field and laboratory testing to Australia standards (AS1289, AS1141, AS1012).

Construction Materials Testing Technician - Experienced - Melrose Park

Coffey Testing has an opportunity for motivated and experienced Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technicians to join our Sydney team based out of our Melrose Park laboratory.

We are one of Australia’s largest construction materials testing providers. We have been delivering testing services to the transport infrastructure, oil and gas and mining industries for over 65 years. We have an extensive network of permanent and site-specific testing facilities located across Australia, including in some of Australia’s most remote locations.

Our clients choose us to provide deep insights into the properties of the materials they’re dealing with. We apply specialised testing and analysis services, using international best practice and conformance standards to achieve detailed, quality results. We provide independent NATA accredited testing services.

The Opportunity

CMTs play a vital role in ensuring the quality and safety of the construction materials used in some of Australia’s largest rail, mining and infrastructure projects. We have permanent full-time roles available for an Experienced CMT Technicians. These roles are best suited to a people that has at least 2 years of hands‑on Construction Materials Testing experience. We respectfully advise that this particular opportunity is not an entry level role and that engineering experience, without actual CMT Technician experience, will not meet the requirements of this position. The positions available are best suited to candidates who can meet the criteria listed:

• Minimum 2 years' experience in Construction Materials Testing industry;
• Demonstrates an unwavering commitment to quality assurance and workplace safety;
• Is physically fit and able to perform a manual labour-intensive role which includes heavy lifting;
• Can work effectively under pressure, prioritising work to meet client demands;
• Has sound experience in field and laboratory construction materials testing to Australia standards or is looking to start a career in construction materials testing;
• Has the ability to work autonomously and displays a level of self-motivation;
• Performs an undertaking of a variety of manual tasks in the field and in the laboratory, including preparing and testing soil, aggregates & concrete samples;
• Completing the following tests - Triaxials, permeabilities, aggregates, rock testing and materials;
• Liaising with Coffey Testing’s client onsite on testing schedules, procedures and results, representing the Coffey Testing brand;
• Can perform routine quality assurance checks and calibrations, ensuring all equipment is maintained;
• Ensures accuracy of test results and timely output of work;
• Has demonstrated experience in laboratory and field testing in soils, aggregates and/or concrete to relevant standards (AS1289, AS1141, AS1012);
• Is NATA approved Signatory (highly advantageous);
• Ideally holds a current NDM Radiation license (highly advantageous); and/or
• Holds a current manual driver's licence (essential).
